I see this all the time, there is a cute girl in the bus, at the trainstation or walking her way trough the city and she's wearing headphones. Freaking zombies.....and I am one of them.

I sometimes have people (elderly, girls, guys) coming up to me and asking me for directions, complimenting me on my santa hat in september or whatever. I feel like wearing the headphones and going excuse me, could you repeat that again, slows the conversation down quite a bit.

Both when I wear them and get approached or when my target is wearing them.

My question being: How does one approach someone with headphones?
And do you wear headphones yourself?

I am assuming that she is wearing headphones for the same reason many people do, because they do not want to get bothered... I use to know a buddy who wore i pod head phones and pretend he was listening to music just so people would bother him.. With that being said I do not know hot approach someone who truly doesnt want to be bothered, but possibly you can make it look like an accident like bump in to them?

Two ways i've found that work...

1 - mime the action of taking out your headphones... they works like 90% of the time.

2 - have a scrap of paper on you and write something like 'Hi' or 'Hello ' on it and i'm pretty sure this will be a nice qwerky way of doing it.

you'd be surprised how many women know sign language... i met loads in a signing class

Yank her headphones out of her ears by the laynard and go "Hey, just wanted your attention"

walk up to her tap her on the shoulder and when she looks at you and asks "what?" or something of that nature. reply with i know this is random but i think your beautiful. then start to walk away and then stop turn around see if she is looking and if she is(most usually do) walk back and say something like "oh, one more thing...whats your name" she will reply and then you know what to do from there.
