I did 3 approaches at the gym today.

-----

First one I caught her while she was walking between machines - she didn't look like she knew what she was doing so I figured that would improve my chances. Approached her from the water fountain (I drink between every other set or so) and ended up coming up on her from behind and

said "Hey whats up?"

I mentioned I saw her over by the free weights and she looked kind of lost. Then I asked her what she was doing for her workout, asked name, then tried some fluff talk (wasn't a good idea) and the convo died for a second, and she took that opportunity for a "nice meeting you" and turned to leave.

Then I said "well hey you should work out with me!" and elaborated on what I was doing. She seemed to consider it for a second then said "no thats all right I've been with a personal trainer before" or something. I left off saying "ok well I'm sure we'll bump into each other again sometime"

After that chick (chicks don't work out very long except on cardio machines), this one doing abs really caught my eye so I went over to her between sets and

Asked her what her workout was (abs and cardio)

Said "well I can see its paying off" pointed at her arm and flexed my arm.

Then we started talking and building a rapport, revolving mostly around working out and diet. I moved closer to her fairly early in the conversation (maybe 2-3 feet distance). I managed to pull off a pretty natural conversation with decent non-verabals (which is good progress for me right now).

At one point I started to feel like a bit of a robot with my hands to my sides so I put my hands on my hips for sort of an "authoritative" posture for a bit. She was making better and better eye contact with me as the conversation moved.

She broke the conversation saying "well I'd better get back to working out"

I said "ok, well hey we should meet up outside a gym environment sometime". She nodded her head while holding eye contact and said "yeah ok." A pause then she said, "I'm here all the time" and I said "yeah I'm sure we'll bump into each other again" (and we probably will).

Would have been more aggressive about getting the number if I weren't going home for a month on Thursday. I would have had to go out to my truck to get my phone, the date would have to be over a month from now - and I probably actually will run into her again.

After that one left I noticed this older (30s) hot chick while I was doing my rotator cuff exercises and stared at her while I was doing that until she noticed me and looked back, and held eye contact until a bit after she looked away.

Then later I went up to her while she was on the leg machine after I got some water.

Said "hey, I can see this working out is paying off for you" and did the whole flex thing.

Her overall expression was one of surprise/shock and I let that affect me.

Then she said "well I mostly just work legs", and then still feeling shaken a bit I started to get more aggressive and told her that her legs were nice. She seemed to actually like that and she smiled and shifted around a bit to show me more leg/ass. But I wasn't very confident when I started getting aggressive so it probably came off as kinda creepy.

We chatted for a bit, and then I broke the conversation and said, "well I'm gonna go do another set. I'll probably bump into you again" (implying that it was going to come back right after my set).

I did my set.

She left the gym.

Lol.

And that was it for the gym. I feel like I did OK on the second one. First and last weren't that great.

The main improvement is only 3 months ago I would have been scared shitless to do this and 6 months ago I simply wouldn't have been able to force myself to do it.

All you talked to them about was gym related stuff. This is okay if you're SUPER interested in it and would love nothing more than to talk about gym stuff with them for 5 minutes before they leave.

But you're interested in them, all these conversations just seemed to be on a topic JUST to have a conversation to keep it going.

Wouldn't You prefer to talk about(and her too) anything else, like stuff you actually wanted to know. If you're opening by asking how she is, you can easily lead the conversation into something else.

i.e "how has your day been?" She could simply reply with "good" and nothing more. You can start any topic, so easily from this situation, "really good? you look as if you've had a hard day at work" or "yeah, you seem so full of energy, I'm guessing you're going to go out tonight and burn more?"

Compare what I just said to what you said. "what muscle group are you doing today?" or "are you doing strength or cardio" They are going to lead to them same place your conversations were going, you can start with these questions sure, But you've got to escalate from this into something that's going somewhere.

So when i see one of the ladies (it tends to be the older ones at the gym who eye me) giving me extended eye contact I should go up and be like hows it going?

Good work man. Obviously could use improvement but like you said, you are getting out there and that's more then many guys can say. As long as your improving its all good. At the very least, you should have definitely got that second chicks number on the spot.. You told her you wanted to hang out outside the gym and she agreed, then you basically said "ok well see ya at the gym, ttyl" and peaced out. C'mon
