Something that I've literally just thought of, tell me what you think.

So your standing next to a girl at the bar. Read her body language to try and see what sort of person she is. Get good eye contact (IOI) wait until she looks down (pause) say " Don't look so scared, Im not gonna eat you.... (pause) just yet (cheeky smile). Maybe later if your lucky (wink)." Then use her response to take it from there.

Is this a bit too full on? I understand that you would need quite a lot of confidence to do this.... What do you think?

Field test it and come back. Tell us what happens.

Even the first line, "Don't be scared"

Sounds like you're assuring here there's nothing to be scared of, which implies that there is a threat.

It says " dont look so scared" with a smile " I'm not gonna eat you". I think its just playful. I think the IOI with eye contact is the part you have to get right for this to work.
