Chris you seem to be missing the point entirely...
Fuze asked if this was the future for generations to come...
And this conversation is stemmed from his one post.
the point is...Some people are unaffected by the effects of technology...but there are tons of people that are affected...it makes them less social. They have no problem talking (texting) from behind a cell phone or computer....but when given the opportunity to be face to face, they fail. Why? Because 90% of their experience comes from behind a computer or handheld device.
Yes, sexual tension will always be present between males and females.... But if you spend majority of your time, like most kids now days, texting and chatting online, you are going to struggle more than normal when it comes to face to face confrontations and social interactions. Its that simple. And you seem to be missing that point. Its been a known fact for years now, that kids of middle school aged and up, who spend X amount of time texting/online, are way more prone to develop social anxiety, depression, etc, etc. Why? Because they live behind the security of the technology. Take that technology away from them, and they simply do not know how to act...regardless of what tension is present. And if one does not know how to act, what use is the sexual tension?
Forget texting and chatting online. Let's talk about third person WORLDS. They all have online chatting but it's like you live within a virtual world where you purchase accessories (ultimately pixels) with money. Creative graphic designers make them. I mean, this is what it really has come to. However, I wouldn't say more are having less face to face confrontations. They're just studying less and using technology to socialize more. If you were reading books back in the day, it would have been no different in terms of facetime, you'd still be inside doing something else.
Now you brought up an interesting point. You blame social anxiety and depression on technology. I disagree. I believe it's the parents' fault in educating these kids. Why? Because the majority of parents are generation X (late 70s/early 80s). My parents are baby boomers. It was routine for my dad to keep me for a 6 hour long conversation during the day or night. Every time I see my parents, he does the same thing. He gets into all my beliefs and morals and questions them, goes on and on about his experience, etc. Being 19, I can tell you that growing up with "these kids" of my generation, is that I see them uneducated from what I've seen and how I've grown up. And yes, I would have to agree, that a lot lack personality or have some crazy views on life. I've ran into them before and it was irritating. Their parents need to sit down with them and give them long ass lectures.
I wouldn't say it's about how MUCH they socialize here, but what they socialize ABOUT. It's like the most meaningless shit in the world. I know every time I go out with the boys, I always end up having some profound conversation with them questioning life and not just focusing on what some slut did last weekend. This is also how I found out how smart a girl is. Can she hold a deep conversation with me and share her ideas..if she has any? Let me give you an example of stupidity:
Me: If a man killed a family's daughter, would you think he deserves death penalty?
Kid: No, I don't believe in death penalty.
Me: Ok ok. If a man killed YOUR daughter or girlfriend, would you think he deserves the death penalty?
Kid: Nope.
Me: Ok ok. If a man was going to kill you and the only way to save yourself was to kill him first, would you kill him?
Kid: Nope, I'm a pacifier. I'd probably seek help or disable him first.
It's kind of along the lines of how my dad converses with me. This is why it's important for parents to talk to their kids more because a bunch are taking in a bunch of propaganda shit from school from a teacher paid with taxpayer money.
