I was reading something from JUGGER . He was writing about openers like :"Do you believe in reincarnation?" + follow up with "My house-mate's cat is the reincarnation of Richard Nixon."(hilarious) And i tried to add a personal spin :

Start with - “My house-mate's cat is the reincarnation of Richard Nixon.”


Follow - (when she gives you the WTF look)
How's that for a line? OR My friend was claiming I did now have the balls to approach you with this line. OR Are you shocked? I was counting on that.

And than introduce yourself.

The first variation of the follow ups you suggested was okay, but I think sticking to the original opener made by jugger would be more effective..
