Guys I am an over weight guy but have no problem going upto girls and starting conversation. Most of the time I blow it cause I am very persistent. Do I strike out because of being fat or is it because I fail to create attraction? I have a reasonably good sense of humor but often have periods of silence due to lack of appropriate responses..

Mostly because of you fail at creating attraction, but looks do matter till certain extent.

I'd suggest to start being a bit more mindful about your weight, and read a bit more just so you get some openers and stories down. It will help avoid silences when the conversation goes flat.
