Hey guys. So I just got a fundraising job for a charity, and let me just tell you, this stuff is all about approaching.
The reason I wanted to get this kind of a job is exactly because of this issue I have. And it works to a certain extent.
Now, of course, fundraising is different to approaching a HB in that you have a t-shirt on, a bucket in your hand and basically ask people to donate money. But, the core element of approaching people, talking to people is still there, and every now and then a HB walks by.
One thing I noticed on my first day of work on Saturday was that in the beginning it was so uncomfortable talking to people, for me at least. I am no way a natural at this. It was difficult to get the ball rolling, but after a few hours I realized something: the quicker you approach, the more people you approach and the easier it gets. Why? Because by the end you don't give a shit about rejections anymore. Every time a person says no or ignores you is a rejection. And let me tell you, for me in the beginning every rejection hammered my ego down, until I was a little depressed.
But after the bit of knowing that for every 15 people you approach maybe 1 will give, the quicker I got at approaching. The quicker I got, the more results I got, IOW the more money I got. Numbers game. Sure, "Excuse me" worked better than "Hey" so there was a slight strategy change, but still. Very applicable to PUA and the main reason I got this job.
I knew it wasn't going to be easy, as I do still suffer from AA, but this job got fun towards the end. I didn't give a shit if that person walking by said no or ignored me or criticized me, I say "Thank you" and am off to the next person.
So I guess I just wanted to write down my thoughts on what I learned on Saturday. I will be continuing this job 4 times a week for 6 hours a day, approaching people, talking to people, and then I will also go sarging with PU material and hopefully a little more confidence. Who knows. Maybe this has no effect on my game at all. But I actually believe it will.
If you have the time, try it out. These jobs are flexible by nature. I could have chosen to work part-time or one day a week. I think it's a good way to start interacting with people. I might even run some PU material on a HB that might stop to donate.
