So I was walking to get some salad from the cafeteria which is basically a buffet. Over to my left I see a girl sitting at a table with some guys. We make eye contact and I kept looking without breaking it no matter what. She ended up breaking eye contact after 3 seconds then half a second later she looked back at me (as I was still looking). Meanwhile, I was putting salad on my plate with metal clamps and instead I was putting the salad NEXT to my plate (I didn't know it). The girl started to smile/laugh and I was smiling too. Then an old black woman working there came from the side and said, "You're making a mess hun!" I tried to not break eye contact and I kept looking at the girl. Finally I looked over and I wasn't even putting the right type of salad onto my "plate". I said, "My bad.." picking up the salad, etc. The woman ended up giving me a soft slap on the ass as if "You're a bad boy." I then smiled to myself and kept moving slow, keeping my cool. I proceeded and added the other toppings to my salad, etc.

This wasn't even a pick-up, I just always maintain eye contact until the girl looks away first. Sometimes I wink and keep a poker face, other than that I wonder if it's better to not smile during eye contact, it makes me feel all gay.
