I've been out running tonight, had my post run shower, dinner, got dressed and decided to avoid the boredom of Thursday night TV by grabbing my coat and heading to a bar where my friend (female) works.

When I'd paid for my drink in, I stood at the bar and had a quick chat with my friend who works there. I hadn't seen my friend for a while so we were just catching up and then a friend of a friend walked into the bar. He came to the bar and I said the usual "hi", "hows it going?" etc and he mentioned that he was out with his friend for a couple of drinks. I then turned to see who he was with and, wow, I was ready for sarging.

I introduced myself and tried the "did you know 92% of women..." opener which backfired a bit. When I said "...and the other 7% sing", she replied "I sing".
Unphased by this I still persevered but she was with someone who I knew so I couldn't use most of the routines I had memorised. I almost blanked her out by going back to talking to the guy and my mind went blank. I couldnt think of anything to say. Has anyone got any useful ones for this type of situation? P.S. She wasn't the guy's girlfriend.

I then went on to talk to a mother & daughter who I already know where I practiced a routine which came off well. The daughter is pretty fit but, as I said, I know them pretty well so I didn't want to pursue that one.

I'm new to the game and tonight was an experimental night however I didn't get the opportunity to talk to someone I don't already know.

On the opener front I've noticed that I unconsciously use openers all the time. The other day I was in the local supermarket (grocery store). with my trolley, I walked past a pretty hot member of staff who was stacking shelves with her own little trolley. On the way past I said "I'll race you to the end". She laughed and I could have stopped for a chat... but didnt

Went to a wine bar with a friend (female) the other day. My friend was getting a cocktail and I opened the barmaid by asking "when do you start spinning and throwing bottles?". She seemed to want to maintain communications after that (a few of her female colleagues were lurking near by) - i guess she was trying to impress them.

The openers from the last two paras were unrehearsed. They came straight off the top of my head and out of my mouth. I guess I'm happy with openers, I'm building up my mid-game but, I am really worried about about the close (number, kiss etc).

Can anyone recommend any closes for numbers that are a bit more subtle than just asking for someone's number?
