Some girl i met on the other side of the country (uk) wants to meet me to have casual sex. but i cant be bothered spending £100 to get there. Am i being stupid or smart?

Well I guess this depends on some things

A: How much money you have
B: How hot is she?

Actually, disregard B.. if she wants it, she'll come to you, making her qualify herself to you is what we're all going for here am I right? :) Even if she doesn't.. oh well, there will be others, no loss.

Sounds like she could easily come to you then.

Last night my friend really wanted to see me "Hey come to *insert bar*" and 1 hour later I tell her "If you want to see me I'm at *insert bar halfway across town*"

30 minutes later, oh hi friend. Sure this didn't seal any deals but none the less it got her there. This girl's already horny and willing though, so you'll more than likely have much different results.. hormones are a powerful thing.
