I have read mystery's book and one of his major themes is "do not try to impress"

what do you guys think of "trying to UNimpress"
for example, lets say you clean out your ears while talking to a girl...something that will tell her "I dont give a damn what you think, look at me, I am being disgusting in front of you"
or is that taking it too far?
