I work in a slightly challenging place for pickup as the only younger girls around are busy and buzzy Junior Doctors on 6 month rotations, and I'm an Administrator, and whilst obviously I don't see myself as below them for a second - and indeed have a good rapport with most of them - its clearly a tad different to a place where everyone works on the same office floor all doing the same sort of clerical job.

Basically, they are the only ones I am having problems number closing with, aside from closing at the end of their rotation and using catch up/keep in touch excuses then initiating text/call game.

It's easy to get Facebook adds but that's not really my thing. Does anyone have any stock suggestions for this sort of situation in terms of casually getting numbers quickly.

I hope I explained that cogently enough.

cheers

Rob

hey robrob - looks like we're both newbies to this site!

I successfully n-closed a young doctor (first year resident) and now waiting til I'm down in London to meet up. If this experience has taught me anything, it's that doctors LOVE the opportunity to talk about ANYTHING other than their jobs, medicine etc. Chances are, when they even do get time to go out, they will spend all their time with guys from work and will talk about nothing else. You need to build value by showing that you can offer more than any other guy in that place - and challenge them to be more interesting than the "average doctor - obsessed with work". A specific example from what I said:

ME: I can't imagine anything worse than spending all my free time talking about work!

HER: yeah, it's terrible - it feels like I'm always at the hospital and always with the same people!

ME: well I tell you what, let's swap - I'll bore you to tears with medical stories and you can attempt to keep my interest with a more exciting topic!

etc etc you get the idea

let me know how you get on!

Nick

Ehhh.... Don't pick up co-workers, as a general rule. Bad things can happen. Also many are against workplace dating themselves, and you'll have a much lower chance (and if you get rejected it's awkward!)

I'm not sure I'd agree as a blanket rule - sure if you're gonna be running into her everyday I would avoid... but if your work place is pretty big (like a hospital) I'd at least test the waters.

You could even use it to your advantage - eg say something like "I have a policy against dating people from work - they always get waay too obsessed with me and stalk me at my desk!" this will probably make her laugh and lower her guard - also gives her an opener to let her tell you how she feels about it - this way you can easily tone it down if you think there's gonna be any issues

cheers

Nick

It's slightly different as the junior docs are on a 6 month rotation and aren't based in my office, which makes catching them harder and more pressured when you do. There's two I need to close before the rotation changes again this Wednesday.

One exhibited some bizarre and hitherto unexplained behaviour. She gets the same train as me and I got chatting to her at the station where I'd see her alot of mornings and evenings. So we talked a few times and had alot in common, she was very girly and I FB added her and was planning to get number. Then one morning I was walking out of the station and up to a crossing, waiting for the lights to change, when I noticed her walk up behind me, see me, then do this weird sort of turn-around circle thing. She was avoiding talking to me and actually walked up the other side of the road. She did this again one afternoon on the way back home, and hid behind a pillar out of my sight. I have no idea why she did this. I deleted her from FB and started being a bit cautious around her, thinking I can't be bothered with that sort of weirdness.

Anyway, suddenly she changed again. Like she had realised a mistake. Suddenly very friendly, chatty, laughing and agreeing with whatever I say. I was like wtf is going on here. Fast forward to now and we're ok, no amazing rapport though, mainly due to me still being slightly disturbed by her previously inexplicable behaviour.

Ahaha I'd totally bring that up. One time I was walking my dog (a boxer/pitbull mix) and saw an HB8 walking down toward me across the street. About 30 feet from me she switched sides. As she passed I go "Hey! Did you cross the street because you're scared of my dog?" She looked down and said no, so I reply with "Oh so it was me then. Are you always so unfriendly?" Couldn't close, but it was fun to open.

So yeah, definitely sometime you're talking alone with her, be like "listen, we need to sort something out." Apprehension always follows those words, so let it develop for a second then be like "Were you avoiding me that one time? I hope I'm not too intimidating for you, I'm a nice guy at heart" with a smile. (Obviously adjust "that one time" so she actually knows when you're talking about.)

I got one out of two numbers I wanted, the second one was always gonna be a dodgy one. The first one I am just about to try to phone game, the number was given to me on the proviso she will be giving me piano lessons...
