Working at my bar tonight, a regular comes in after a full day of drinking and begins to demand anything and everything. He's by far the most alpha male in the place, grabbing at random women, standing on bar stools, and preceding a reputation.

After chatting most of the girls up, he up and leaves his stripper girlfriend that he brought along for the night. She comes to me asking where he is? I respond with a *shrug* because he's rubbed me the wrong way minutes early asking to change the satelite radio station, along with making him doubles and charging him for singles.

I end up texting him (yes, he's a hockey buddy of mine) and he comes back for her, storming in asking "where is she!?" My only condolensce is that it's far from a healthy relationship and although he's got his alpha ways, I have my drama levels set lower.

Aside from this being a frustrated rant, my question is how to deal with alpha behavior, aside from amoging (he is a hockey buddy) and ignoring it until it festers within?

well, i will offer my advice as a former bartender...

realize that a "bar" or "pub" is one of those places that encourages and rewards that sort of obnoxious behavior.

btw, demanding doubles instead of singles, making you change the radio station, getting in everybody's face, standing on barstools, etc...

is NOT alpha behavior.

it's OBNOXIOUS behavior.

that shit would never fly anywhere, but for a few locations:

- bars
- parties
- certain sporting events

how would i handle it?

first i would gage the owner's point-of-view on this guy coming in the bar and acting like an asshole. is he a regular? does he drop tons of cash? is he well-liked by the owner? does he start fights? etc...

quit cowwing to his bullshit.

the guy sounds more like a bully than an alpha male.

Being loud and taking up space is alpha, yes. But not in this sort of way.

Coming from a small town, the mentality seems to make me question myself. Again, I`m spot on with my thoughts. (Completely agree with the alpha - obnoxious distinction)

the vast majority are not REAL alpha males, they are just a bunch of pricks who pretend they are gangsters and give off the attitude of one. Real alpha males are usually gangsters in that region, rich celebrities or some bad-ass arms dealer or something lol. Obviously if there aren't any that come in, then some asshole has to pretend they are an alpha male and take their place.
