i'm a cashier at cvs and this girl that comes in every now and tried to small talk with me. normally customers will just ask me how i am and that's it. she asked me if i wanted to know what the score of the game was (fuck yeah bruins!) and i asked her what it was. she told me what it was and said she was glad she's not coming out of town right now because it's pretty crazy now. her receipt printed and i handed it to her and she hesitated for a good second like she wanted to keep talking. it was a quick moment of silence which threw off the rhythm of things (i'm sure a lot of people here know what i'm tlaking about). so she just said thank you and have a good night and left.

what should i have done differently? i'm extremely hesitant on gaming customers. it just feels weird to me and i feel so uncalibrated if i attempt it...so i don't attempt it.

any thoughts? should i try something the next time she comes in? what should i even say?

Next time, print two receipts out, and tell her to write her phone number on one of them, due to the new policy.
