So, I'm new to the game. I'm in the process of reading Neil Strauss's The Game, but slowly (a chapter a week, as a reward for success in other, unrelated areas of self-improvement). I'd like to eventually get good at seduction, but I'm not looking to quickly read a bunch of threads and just become a non-practicing keyboard warrior. With that said, I need some advice in the meantime. Here's my scenario:

For the past year or so, I've sort of had an off-on thing with this girl from my hometown, but it never really developed into anything. She's a few years younger than I am and in high school, so when she started dating a guy her age I backed off, and then again when I left for university. Now I'm home for the summer, though, and I'd like to try my hand.

I'm fairly certain she's interested, but we've mainly been talking via text, and I haven't really been able to escalate. Honestly, I'm not sure how to escalate through text. I'm seeing her next week at a party, but I've heard talk that she's talking to her ex again.

I'm really just not sure how to proceed with the whole thing. At this point in my life, I'm not ready to jump head first into seduction and sarging, but I would love to apply some seduction techniques to this isolated case.

Any advice on how to proceed, or questions about the situation?

I'm really looking forward to the response to this. I'm in a very similar situation and I'm not sure where to go from here.

Why don't you try the "I've had a crush on you for years." line and see how it goes?
I mean it's all about being confident and having the guts to say something.
I've done it and it worked. She said she likes me too, but the bad thing is, I was a bit late and she was already dating someone...

The girl already knows I'm attracted to her, as it's come up in conversation before, and I was direct (hoping that wasn't a mistake). Now I'm just trying to figure out if I should build tension before I see her (and if so, how) or if it's better to start cold when I see her at the party.
