I know it's rare, but I had a girl yesterday ask me what my religion is. (WTF??)

So I tell her my normal (true) answer about not believing in fairy tales, but it turns out she's a devout Christian and started talking about how the earth's energy can't have just come to be, blah blah blah... And I'm left thinking holy shit how did the conversation go there!

Maybe it's better, for the sake of getting into her pants, to find out her beliefs and go with that, in order to easily change the subject?

Do you guys have a better way of dealing with this kind of situation?

"The most important part about religion is not which god you worship or believe in. The most important thing about religion is treating those around you with respect and kindness, the way you wish to be treated. In that sense, all religions are the same"

im not religious, but i pick and choose the parts i like from different religions and apply them so my answer to most religious questions are along the lines of that

Seriously Dude, not the right thing to say calling someone who believes in a creator "believing in stupid fairy tales".

That is so fucking offensive.

There is room in this world for athiests, agnostics, thiests, and everything in between, without having to insult other people's beliefs.

Maybe there is no god, maybe there is. How the fuck do you OR I know?

So don't go around insulting people! That's just low class. Really.

Tolerance ... THAT'S COOL!!!

Actually to be honest, I don't usually say it that harshly to people I've just met that I think might be religious (unless I'm trying to be an asshole). I just said that here because we're all friends and I don't imagine many of us are religious. My actual response was "No I don't follow any religion or belief system".

(BTW just because we're all free to follow any religion we like, doesn't mean I don't have permission to think someone is stupid for following religion X!)

You are free to think whatever you want. But freedom can be expressed in tasteful and distasteful ways.

"I do not discuss my beliefs with people."
If they come across as christian I bring up matthew 6:6 "But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret" But in america christians are the only religous nuts you need to worry about. Besides if she is that into jesus. She is probably petrified of cock. Living in the south taught me something.

That which has been stated without evidence can be dismissed without evidence. I have no patience with religious people and I always tell them so; most religion consists of lies fabricated to control the weak.
I think the most respectful thing you can do for a person is to tell them the truth, even if they won't like it.

Not true.

We've also got "those nuts" that fly planes into buildings.

I've got no problem with athiests - the enlightened kind. Who also practice the same tolerance and respect that they ask for.

I'm not specifically a Christian, but I was raised in a Christian family, and I know good Christian people.

What bothers me, is that here on a PUA website, you are allowed to call Christians "religious nuts". Would anyone here be allowed to say "muslims are religious nuts"?

I'm just curious if this level of intolerance is equal opportunity.

Every time you see a fat person walking down the street, do you feel compelled to announce "Hey, you are fat." just because it's "the truth"?

Again, I don't espouse any particular religious views, so don't try the old "aggravate the christian" routine on me. It simply won't work. However, what I am talking about is COUTH. Respect. You know ... live and let live.

There is a time and place for such things, and like it or not, we do live in a society that allows freedom of religion. And yes, you do have freedom of expression. You CAN say whatever you want, but at times, you may want to evaluate your motives for saying certain things, with a certain tone, in certain settings. With freedom comes responsibility.

All I am saying is that I respect the views of athiests, therefore I don't go around calling them nuts, stupid, or wrong. Can you say the same for your behavior?

Mega respect for this post bro.

Let people believe as they wish, hell, try to find out more if you feel compelled to.

Life should be, in whole a learning experience from day 1 to day 0, and you should be living with an open mind if you truly wish to have a successful accomplished life.

Burning people for their beliefs is definitely a massive step in the wrong direction.

No but nor do I yell "Hey, you have a mental disorder!" at passing nuns just because it's the truth. If it comes up in conversation though, you can bet your ass I'll give it to them straight.

People don't respect it when a schizophrenic believes that there's an alien in the sky watching him and in fact, to do so would probably cause much harm; why do they act differently when a Christian tells them likewise? "When one person suffers from a delusion, we call it insanity. When many people suffer from a delusion we call it religion." "Naturally, anyone who shares such a delusion does not recognize it as such."

We are entirely determined by a combination of environment and biology. What is, is and could never have been any other way with us still being around to see it. There is no free will, only an unbreakable illusion that walks hand in hand with human consciousness. But, all that aside, you cannot laudably claim that what society approves of is automatically right, society once proved of slavery, oppression, female circumcision and any other number of things that I'm sure you find abhorrent; were they right? Do you believe we now live in a perfect society?

I assume you mean my attitude toward Christians/the religious, in which case: no. I have no respect for religion and no tolerance, nor do I perceive this to be a flaw.

Also, as a response to one of your earlier posts: Muslims are religious nuts, they just tend to be less "in my face" than the Christians.

Whats your beef with religion? Is it really that bad if someone wants to believe in something you dont? Everyone is entitled to their beliefs. Science has theories of how things are created, but still no solid proof. Religions have their stories as well. Neither prove anything. The only difference is science is continually advancing, but as it does so, it runs into more and more problems that need solving. particles are invented to fit theories. Fundamental laws are changed when they dont fit more recent observations. Does it really matter that you think their theory of creation is wrong and yours is right? The most respectful thing you can do for a person is to be tolerant and respect their beliefs.

If everyone was tolerant and respected each others beliefs, there'd be alot less trouble in the world.

I imagined a guy like your avatar giving lectures in schools about tolerance with this line as his catchphrase.

I LOL'd.

Sixpounder,

It's up to you how "likeable" you want to be in life.

It's quite frankly not my problem.

If you want to be loud, opinionated, judgmental, intolerant, and cruel - by all means - go for it! More power to you.

I'll be over here with the civilized people (not looking like a dickhead)

Nice ad-hominem dismissal of my argument; it's always good when someone takes the time out of their day to provide me with a logical fallacy
