IOI or just being polite?

Hey guys, newbie here.

So I was on the elevator today, and an HB6 walked on. It was just us two, and she was carrying a couple of plastic plates in her hand. So the following conversation happened. I act like a goof, just a forwarning.

Her: *sigh* plates... (indirectly, not saying it to anyone, but I assumed she wanted to talk to me)
Me: Big occasion?
Her: Yeah, there's a sandwicher going on downstairs, and I don't have any plates so I had to bring all these plastic ones.
Me: Uhh, ohh, I see, heh. Cool. Right. (awkward)
Her: Yeah :) you can come down and help if you'd like.
Me: How long is it going till?
Her: It's only going till 6.
Me: Oh okay. Cool. Ill see.

And we just sort of went into separate directions withotu syaing goodbye. I know, I screwed up, I stuttered, but I'm a newbie and having a girl talk to me was a big deal - especially since it was a girl who I'd had my eye on for some time.

Anyway, I know I've screwed it up with her regardless, but I noticed two things which seemed like IOI's (her opening me, suggesting I help out). Were those really IOI's? Was there any interest being telegraphed there, or was she just being polite? (She seems like a really nice girl who seems like the type to start conversation with a lot of people).

Your thoughts are very much appreciated.

It's hard for me to tell, as I wasn't there, but from the sounds of it, that "you can come down and help if you like" line could very well have been an IOI. What was her body language saying?

Well tbh I don't really know what to look for, haha. She wasn't doing any of those obvious things like flicking her hair, touching or whatever. She was smiling, glancing at me, keeping pace with me... I guess that's pretty much it really. She was pretty genuinely interested in the conversation (or at least, the idea, because I sort of failed to deliver), but I'm not sure if she was interested in ME.

Thanks for the reply. Help is appreciated. :)

Well, that was an invitation, so that counts as IOI, for me it does, I can't see why you didn't go though...? if you went it would've been more clear it was IOI or not ;)

Well, I was actually heading off to write a mid-term, which is why I wasn't able to go. I get the feeling even if I didn't I wouldn't have gone though. Still have a lot to work on. :)

Thanks a lot for the responses guys!
