The only way to see if the girl is sexually dominate is to see if she is more aggressive in her answers when you ask her sexual questions. The problem with that tho is if she is horny or craves sex a lot it may come off as being sexually dominating. There is really no real way to tell without asking the girl out right. You can ask her if she likes tying up the guy or something, but if you are going to ask that you might as well ask if she likes taking control in the bedroom.
You can try the things you mention. Tho be aware that she may not have a sexual dominate side in her at all, so don't be surprise if things fail or don't go to plan.

I don't seem to have trouble finding these women, although I don't want them most of the time. I'm the type that likes to switch things up.

First of all, don't get discouraged if you can't find a dom woman, there really aren't that many. However you can spot them if you know how.

First, look at her general demeanor and personality. Some people are very mild mannered in life but dom in bed, but that does not seem to apply to women in my personal experience. So far, if a woman is take charge in her life, she is more likely to be take charge in bed.
