Heres one thing you guys shouldn't do: Use canned openers. Sure, they're proven to work but nothing beats originality. Anyway.....

My wing(that I actually met here) and I went to a bar to practice opening some sets. We opened a set with an HB 6.3. We kept talking to them and none of her friends seemed to really show any interest except her towards me. (I didnt care because I was there for her anyway.) But I didnt wanna be a dick and ignore her friends so I ignored her for a little while...etc..blah blah..we split up after about 5 minutes of blabbering.

In about 10 minutes we see them again and come up to them and the 6.3 looks a little glad to see us I guess and gets all excited. So basically she's giving a ton of IOI's. After about another 3-4 minutes of talking she asks how old I am and I say I'm 28 as a joke, except I'm really 18. She obviously doesn't believe me so I tell her the truth. Shes 20 by the way. Anyway, my wing uses the best friend test. She says "Wait a minute, are you trying to be like mystery from that show". I thought I was going to shit myself. The funny thing is I already knew she watched a lot of VH1 because I asked her if she liked this one artist that was playing at the moment and she said yeah and that she saw him do some stuff on VH1 but I had no way of warning my wing. So basically as she said are you trying to be like Mystery, he says I think you're drunk, and we basically just ejected from there.

I didn't really care too much but I learned a lesson of not using all the most common stuff. Remember this guys...DON'T DO ANYTHING YOU SAW ON "The Pick Up Artist".

By the way, one question: anybody else have problems being a freshman in college? Because it really annoys me how all the annoying, goddamn conformist side burned frat morons don't have to try too hard to get some hot chick talking to them, and believe me, I AM NOT JOINING ANY FRATS FOR DHV's.

yes! i know exactly what you mean about the frat guys.. but then again, the girls that go to them arent the kind of girls you want, believe me..

but being a freshman in college doing pickup, i get the "are you like mystery" line allllll the time.. then again it can be a great way to continue the conversation.. there are a ton of tutorials about this up on the forum..

yeah but those are the type of girls i DO want. I just want some action, I'm not looking for any long term relationships you know. But yeah I hate those mindless drones of frats.

HB: "Are you trying to be like Mystery?"

YOU: "How can you be an intangible thing? O, i get it this is a game, ok ill play along...your trying to be like...er, can you explain the rules to me?"
(said playfully and quizicaly)

YOU: "Well i did teach him a thing or two...Hey do you always cut people off when they try to talk to you? Thats not an attractive trait."
(humourous, then almost insulted, but maintain smile)

Im new and have not come accross this line yet but these are ideas i came up with to deal with it. First one turns it into a game, you might even be able to do a routine about games (like a DHV story about a game you once played)

I can imagine saying that, but once a girl asks some thing like "are you trying to be like mystery", in her eyes, you're just a fool that cant talk about things that are actually interesting and must use somebody else's material.
