Don't get me wrong. This isn't a post asking for medical advice. It's for entertainment purposes only.

Since this kind of topic isn't documented anywhere else online that I know of, I figured I'd discuss here.

What I was wondering if a lot of PuAs are motivated by Bipolar Mania of some sort.

I know a buddy who, after being comfortable picking up woman at bars, started doing it every night. As long as he had snatched a snatch that night, it didn't matter if she was good looking or bad. He couldn't get enough women. After he was past his manic stage he told me, "Man I could have gotten STDs. I feel kind of stupid hooking up with a lot of those girls. Don't tell anyone I did that."

Mania turns people into sex crazed animals for a period of time before they mellow out a bit and then repeat. Is that possibly a big motivational factor for some guys who want to get into Pick up/Do pick up?

I only got into pickup so I can have success with women which I never had until I was 18, not because i was on the verge of raping women lol

Wouldn't know. Not a PUA yet, and have never had continuous positive sexual reinforcement like you describe. I would think that after years of sexual frustration, to suddenly have a floodgate opened with all sorts of women laying at your feet would be rather addicting. I don't see why that would indicate any kind of precondition like being Manic. A better analogy would be like discovering you like crack, and that you can have all the crack you want. I wonder how long it would take for all that sex to get old?

That's the thing. He never had any success with women either until he got into the right mind-set. Now I know why I he was concerned about it :P

But crack isn't a build in desire like a man's sex drive. Although people who are bipolar tend to self-medicate themselves a lot by abusing substances.

Sex doesn't get old. It just gets out of control when they're in a manic phase. My buddy spent thousands of dollars one month going out to clubs and bars scouring for women to lay. He also had the confidence of a male bull in heat before he even succeeded with his first woman.

He's calmed down now, and he feels accomplished looking back on his short past of success minus all the girls that you wouldn't want anyone else knowing (last 2-3 months). Some of the antics he pulled were downright embarrassing, and he confesses to me how stupid he feels about it e.g. hitting on people's girlfriends at parties, oneitising one of his lays etc.

I've never touched any of the hard drugs, but my understanding of them, is they stimulate the pleasure centers (dopamine receptors). The pleasure centers are built-in. All that crack does is stimulate the hell out of 'em, plus leave you chemically dependent, unlike sex. So I don't see any useful distinction between "built-in" and external stimulus for explaining addictive behavior. I'm saying that if you're looking for "a predisposition to Mania" to explain all addictive behavior, you're barking up the wrong tree. Your medical diagnosis is unsound and without basis. Just go study addictions in general.

My buddy...
is an anecdote about 1 guy. How many anecdotes do you have about PUAs in general?

People who have diseases like ADHD and Bipolar lack certain chemicals in their brains, INLCUDING dompaine, that cause them to self-medicate themselves with drugs and alcohol. Once they are on proper medication, many people are found to give up the addictions. This is proven in all studies.

If you want to assume this as me trying to explain all addictive behavior with mental illnesses, that's fine. In actuality, I believe a lot of mental diseases are linked to addictions. Go study mental diseases in general.

How many anecdotes do you believe I'll get from asking a PuA forum?
