You have to say it in a very dominant way. As you say that, look into all of their eyes from one to another and say it in a slow and relaxed manner. If you say it in a cocky way, you will get shot down by some very sarcastic responses. Trying to be the shit is being cocky and annoying. Being the shit is being relaxed. Even if you do get some sarcastic responses, play it off cool.

I would say something like "that's rich coming from you," but I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt and welcome this new side of you man. I hope it lasts!

As for the OP, why bother with the question? If you have a favourite, why don't you go straight up to the group and, in front of all of them, tell her you think she's the cutest out of all of them.

Or, how about

"Hey, don't take this the wrong way, but you're totally the 2nd cutest girl I've seen all day"

Do it with a SMILE and be fun and playful with it, and you'll probably get a positive response.
