Scenario:
So you send a text to a girl inviting her out for a concert and for brevity you don't tell her what, when etc. Her response: 'Hi, how u doin blabla. Sorry I'd love to go but i have an appointment.'
Obviously just an excuse since she doesn't know when. What would you do, drop her?
Anyway I don't really ask this in the context of pickup as it happened twice not with a chick but with a friend of mine. I take it as a bit of an insult and don't know how to take it.

the response actually sounds like they thought that you meant the night that you sent the sms. otherwise the excuse could easily be uncovered as a flat out lie. i would only call them out on it if its a person that is close to me or when it happens repeatedly.

Location: Tha bitchy dude. | | Why would you resort to violence? It does not solve your problems though! It only makes them worse. Imo, make a pubevent (not a date) but .. just go and hang out with pot or pint.. ask him why he has been dodging you lately or anything of that kind.
Remember, your friends for a reason. If he doesn't explain why, he isn't a true friend. You need to realise that people aren't always real friends as they pretend to be, so make sure that you DEMAND the explanation.. but do it on a subtiel way, hence the beer & the pub!
