Im facing a similar situation. I'm sure in the coming months I will shave my head and have to tackle the same situation some of you guys are facing. I'm confident it will all work itself out :)

I have the exact same problem. I was starting to get thin hair at 18 years old (im 20 now). I used rogain but im pretty sure that it dosen´t work, maybe a little bit, but i panict and tried everything. Now im using Toppik and it´s freaking amazing! Try it and i can gurantee you that you will start using it on regular bases.

I don´t have little hair by any means but it´s soo sooo thin. And as long as you still got hair on youré head, it works like a miracle. I have been feeling pretty bad about my hair, or really bad and i got really happy when i tested the first time. The confidence got skyhigh and today im a pretty good PUA, atleast if youre comparing to the old me (Of course the hair did´t get me there but it helped me alot).

So my advice, try it. If you don´t like it. Shave:) But please try it and come back and tell me what youre think... Well i know what youré gonna think;)

i pasted this on some other forum awhile ago..

male baldness is caused by hormonal reactions in the body that shrink the follicles on the top of the head and temples.

propecia is very expensive and its a 1mg dose of finasteride that you take daily.... prevents DHT (the hormone responsible) from developing or reaching your scalp

advodart (dutasteride ) does a simlar thing but is more potent and more likely to give you less sex drive and possibly sore balls

minoxidil is a serum / foam you can put on your scalp, recommended 2 times morn and night and will help restore the follicles

im 25 and i noticed thinning and got on finasteride right away... been on it for about a year.. and i use minox prolli 3 times a week... popping a pill a day is nothing and they are tiny.. if you still have hair and its enough to salvage get on finasteride now.. you'll save what you have generally... and i dont really have any sides from the drug...

COST: propecia is super expensive.....

however... there is a drug called PROSCAR which is the EXACT same thing but the pills are 5mg doses instead of the 1mg youre supposed to take... (5mg wont help any more then 1 for hair loss)...

a YEARS supply of PROSCAR is $35 .... with a drug plan, and it IS covered.. i pay $5 a year... minox is optional its about $150 for the year......

PROSCAR just ask your doctor to prescribe that instead... i use a steak knife to cut the proscar pills into 4's.. i do about 12 pills, takes 10 mins.. put into an advil bottle... 12X4 gives you 48 days worth of pills. internet will say cut into 5 for 1mg doses. but its too difficult. just do 4.... when u only have two months left. call your doc and he can call in a prescription for you... (thats in Canada)

I believe most countries inc the US Proscar is available in a tub at costco wout a prescription....

easy shit. finasteride has been long term tested... it was used initially to treat enlarged prostates... keeping your hair is a side effect.

just popping the pill alone will help... if youre not gettign results then try minox...kirkland minox on onlyhairloss.com is cheap... iv given up on minox for the most part. randomly use it... the pills i just pop once a day... each pill is like the size of a grain of rice... not much of a chore..

if it fails.. then shave... as peeps have been saying.. least you tried

I started going bald around the same age.. and it did bug me out.. because at the time I was shy.. and was like great.. something else to hold me back...
what ya gotta do.. is simply let go.. if you're hair is receiding and you have longer hair.. get a short hair cut at first.. if it is farther along.. well.. start buzzing it close with a one or 2 buzzer.. and then finally.. "Bic It" or in my case.. Mach 3..
I still wear hats and bandanas.. but I dont hide that I am bald.. and have gotten just as much attention without hair.. the way I wear a bandana it just gives me a whole tough guy image.. when I am at a place.. I definitely get everyone's gaze.. alot of the people I ride out with also kind of have a tough guy image.. even if they have a diff style than me.. so it works out.. but.. I do counter it by smiling alot and meeting alot of people from the get go to disarm people from thinkin Im gonna hurt someone haha..
what have you been doing to deal with balding?

Posted this last month in the health and fitness forum (can't post the link). I've had pretty good luck so far with saw palmetto.

Hi, long-time lurker, first-time poster here...

Have you looked into DHT blockers? I've been taking saw palmetto for almost 2 months and have noticed quite a bit of new hair growth on my vastly thinning scalp. Takes a while, but it's worth it. Then again, transplants aren't a quick solution either. Granted, herbal medicine will only work if your hair loss is related to DHT production in the body. Just Google "DHT blocker" for more info.

Saw palmetto is the best-known, most readily available and cheapest natural DHT blocker out there. Side effects aren't anything too major (my libido's still strong). Don't go cheap -- buy the good stuff! I got mine at Wal-Mart (of all places!). There are other commercial products out there, such as Propecia and Nu Hair. You can find all that stuff at any Walgreens/CVS-type store. I'm currently taking 450mg of saw palmetto daily (which is probably the maximum I'd recommend, and probably enough to do the job). Much cheaper and less painful than hair transplants, and perhaps more effective in the long term.

As for women who prefer human brillo pads, well, that's their problem. Law of averages, my friend, law of averages. I've noticed many of the women I've met have no problem with it. Some love it! It's all about your charisma, personality and how you carry yourself. Which of course is why you're here, right?

So, do your homework and look into the herbal approach. And keep us posted. Good luck!
