It's comforting to hear a first hand experience like that, because this is the first time someone close to a partner has passed away, so it's not something I've encountered before.
When someone tells you that you're their best friend and lover, and you're shut out, you can't help but be a little saddened. So thanks for the insight, I really do appreciate it.
Has anyone else experienced this before?

Thank you for the well thought out response, I appreciate it. It certainly is difficult, because it's like experiencing a complete 180 degree turn in the blink of an eye. It can be easy to jump to conclusions

I guess she needs to be with her friends who offer a different kind of love and affection that you may have to offer - im assuming.
Either that or, sorry to say, sometimes people change after such an event so much so that they overhaul their lives. This could mean contemplating whether being in a relationship is any good for her at the moment as life is too short etc.
Im sure she just needs time and space that is all. Give it a week or so then talk to her again.
I imagine it is difficult for you and it is easy to jump to conclusions but im sure there is nothin in it bar just needing time and space
The reason I am saying this is that ive seen it before where, as you say, the closest person to the girl was the person they least wanted around them - they actually wanted me around them. I felt uncomfortable, because I felt the boyf should have been there, but I was doin what any close friend will have done.
She is with him still and continue to have a great relationship.
