Is there some unspoken rule about doing this? Is it tacky? I work as a salesman and there is this hottie that comes in about once a week, I've joked around with her here and there but I never seem to get a chance to run into her outside of work. Any ideas on how to advance on her while I'm at work since that's when I see her?

It's not tacky. The problem is you're sticking your neck out and at some point you're going to pick the wrong person to hit on, she'll feel too uncomfortable to come in again and you'll have a complaint, which can result in loss of job. That's all. When you're a good PUA, women might slip their numbers in your pockets or write them on store copies of receipts. No one can get you for that. That happened a lot to a (male) friend of mine who was a server at Village Inn. If the girl initiates seeing or talking to you outside your work, then you're safe.
