I was entering this gas station yesterday and this middle aged portly guy is behind me so I just reflexively do the polite thing and open the door for him.

We're in line and he finishes paying for his stuff and turns to me and says "hey are you catching the soccer game?" I love soccer so I say "yea!" and I start babbling (wouldn't normally do this but I've been trying to practice my delivery and story telling skills with anyone who will let me) on and on. I tell him I'm trying to start a company and that's what's been taking up my time. Afterwards he turns to leave and says 'hey you're really cool we should continue this conversation. He looks fairly well to do so first thing I think to myself: "Business opportunity" and exchange numbers. So I go on my way patting my back about how well I carried the conversation. He calls me later on in the day and leaves a message saying that the US lost the match but he'd like to meet. Returned his call this morning out of courtesy and he extends the conversation with small talk while I'm impatiently trying to cut him off. Says he's going to CHI but was really struck by what a nice guy I am and.. how "handsome" I am .. and how he'd love to get together some time.

ALARM BELLS.

He then asks me what my typical day is like and I tell him I'm heavily booked most of the day and quickly "remember" that my "girlfriend"'s birthday is this Thursday. I also say I'll be going out of town for a while this summer. Nevertheless he ends by saying "Well, I'll call you when I get to CHI okay? and I'll call you again when I get back in town". By then I am 1000% creeped out and say "yea sure, that'd be cool".

Now I know sure as hell this guy isn't trying to invest in my company. The problem is now that my pick up efforts have gone too far.. how do I get this guy off me?

Has anyone else run into a problem like this where they were just working on their pickup and ended up attracting the, err, wrong kind of person?

Tell him the truth, that you're not gay, in case he thinks that. BTW being called good looking by other guys isn't necessarily that guy being gay.

Do you know of any straight guys who after meeting you for all of 3 minutes would leave you phone calls, propose to meet you, call you a wonderful and handsome guy, and propose to call you on their business trips?

I don't have any problems with gays. Just not so comfortable about being hit on by a guy 25 years older than me whom I was just being nice to in order to practice getting GIRLS. In any case this has been a real lesson for me in what women feel like when a guy gives IOIs WAAY too early without building comfort.

Just tell him straight up. He's probably going to keep bothering you. Idk this isn't my area of specialty though... I guess he's like a gay AFC with oneitis? lol
