So, I'm waitering in Manhattan now, and I've been starting to see the great potential my employment holds for me. Today I decided to test it out a bit. A cute girl, by herself was seated in my section and I decided that I would attempt to create attractive conversation.
She was on the phone when I arrived at the table, and paused the conversation to give me her order. When I returned with her drink she was reading a book. I asked her what she was reading. I used her responses to quickly focus my questions to a point where I could make a connection between us. I discovered that she was an NYU student, living in Brooklyn, who is a theatre actress. I maintained a body language that was very laid back and leaned with my hand against the chair across from her. I used some amusing anecdotes about my experience in the film and television industry to create relevant DHVs. I continued to engage her in conversation and had built in time constraints (my other tables) that I used to briefly eject when the conversation ran thin.
She exhibited great eye contact, an excited facial expression, and lots of laughter. All decent IOIs.
By the end of the meal I realized that there was the potential for a number close. I tried to figure out what I could do to ensure I wouldn't get in trouble, especially if she declined, and then began to deal with self-confidence issues. I finally wrote my number on a piece of paper with my name and had a nice line all set in my head. But I had dropped the bill already and she had apparently paid and was on her way out. She got up from the table and said goodbye to me. I fingered the paper in my hand, but finally chickened out.
Then I went to collect the bill and found "Thanks!" and her phone number written at the top of the receipt.
Wow, was I beaming. I personally thanked the hostess for seating me such a fine young lady
But now I'm left with a problem: I have NO experience with phone/txt game, and don't know how exactly to proceed. I'd like to send her a txt tomorrow in the after noon, just basically saying something friendly and that I'll talk to her later. And then on Tuesday perhaps call her and suggest something. But I don't know what to write first. I need to be congruent with my waiter persona, which is definitely not cocky/funny, which I know is the usual fall-back for txt game. Any advice is appreciated.
And any questions of clarification are encouraged.
