Iv'e been watching shit loads of nlp videos that i have downloaded. all done by americans....

i find that Americans just wont get to the fucking point about things. After being in America last year i found i couldn't understand why an american person cannot just say. Hit the nail with a hammer and it will go in the wood.

Instead they say.... Ok, sooo first lets take the hammer, its a big hammer, really big and heavy, its like a weapon! so be really careful you know man? so.... next you have to take the nail, the nail is made from some kind of hard metal so it wont bend when you hit it, next angle the nail where you wanna hit it in, because there is no point in putting the nail where you dont want it is there? hahahaha -_-, then use all your arm power, but not too much, and strike the nail with the hammer, like your using a fist action to beat some bread dow....

I just say...

Hit the fucking nail with the hammer and it will go in...

Anyway, i find all nlp teaching is like this... i cant understand what they are trying to say most of the time, anyone else found this? and know of any torrents/videos of decent teachings where they get to the point?

I tried to give an explanation of why but gave up because it was just taking me far too long - so here's some rambling hints instead! I should mention that there is some good stuff within the NLP mess but it's hard to locate. Go and find "Gerry Kein" and his "OMNI HYPNOSIS TRAINING CENTRE" videos for a reasonably good explanation of hypnotism... they're around online, unless you want to pay for them.

Bandler and Grinder ARE genius' nomatter what anyone else says; I never would have thought such a simple ruse would have suckered so many people out of so much bloody money. Hence, they fucking rock, in an evil madman kind of way.

NLP is a psuedoscientific sales-cult that sells a diluted package of psycholinguistics, psychology, neuroscience, psychophysiology tidbits. And it throws in a whole load of newage nonsense for good measure to make the package more appealing and add to that a number of made-up theories and many 'out of context' observations...

The reason why that the 'masters of NLP' never get to the fucking point is because most of them are idiots. And more importantly, they because they believe that 'people learn things through telling and listening to stories', so therefore they always tell stories when they want people to learn something even if it isn't necessary. It's also a nice way of covering up the fact that they don't really understand why what they're doing works/doesn't work.

It's not americans - it's idiots. And not all americans are idiots!

You'll learn more from studying psycholingustics, psychophysiology and 'ericksonian hypnosis' than you will from the NLP crowd...

Remember: the brain is HARDWIRED to process spoken language - whatever you talk about, you WILL think about - whatever somebody else talks about, you WILL think about as your brain will process everything they say automatically - if you talk about specific ideas in specific ways, it WILL create a neuropsychological response in any listeners.

And because the imagination creates physiological reponses through sub-divisions of the ideo-motor effect --- if you can get somebody to imagine something (by describing it to them) they will experience the same physiological responses associated with the actual event/item. [Speed seduction, anyone?]

In order to get from A to C you need to go through B; if something isn't working it's probably because you missed a vital step - the route is more important than the direction you're trying to take somebody.

This post should be archived, it is pure gold. Derren Brown says much the same of NLP in his book.
My only complaint with it is that not only is it usually better to ignore NLP and go after the sources it was inspired by, it is sometimes better to even ignore these and just observe people and use f***ing common sense. Ultimately the Field is where you succeed or fail.

Derren Brown, eh? I should probably read his books at some point. And I respectfully disagree with your statement about ignoring other sources of information - why bother observing and figuring things out for youself when you can read a book in a few hours, and learn what took somebody else an entire lifetime to figure out?

I don't mean to sound as negative about NLP as I do but it really is a diluted study of some extraordinarily complex scientific fields. And because most people have never even heard the terms 'psycholinguistics' or 'psychophysiology', they wrongly assume that the things they're learning within the NLP community originate from the NLP community - so they put the whole 'NLP' concept on a pedestal and become hopelessly suckered.

The big thing that NLP is famous for is 'modelling' - which, simply put, is the idea that if you copy what somebody else is doing then you'll be able to do it too. It does work: everyone knows that copying someone, and they way that they do something, will allow you to at least approximate their skills.

However, you should realise that mimicry does NOT equate to mastery; and mastery of a skill requires you understand the underlying processes and mechanics of the process, and are able to utilise them on-the-fly, and are able to adjust the mechanics to best suit yourself... and be so proficient through practise that you do all of the above automatically - which takes a lot of time and effort.
