Hi all

I'm going to be travelling to Singapore soon. Will be travelling alone, and will be there for 2 weeks, working in the daytime but off in the eve to do what I want Ideally, I'd like to set up a few meetings before I go.

Having read various bits of advice I've started e-mailing HBs in Facebook expat groups, asking them for suggestions for cool bars. Am getting a decent enough response rate (about 50%), but am not sure how to amp things up from here. Just telling them we should hook up may be a bit AFC? Also, very importantly, my job is kinda public (as can be gleaned from my Facebook profile) and so I can't be too obvious or direct in case it pisses them off...

Any ideas how I could take things forward from these girls giving me some suggestions re bars/restaurants?

probably just normal indirect game, qualify them.

and of course snoop around their profile/events to see where they usually hang, then a few offhand questions about the SPAM of the venue etc.

and depending on how many we are talking about, you might see them at whatever venue and then run normal game.

Thanks man. I've started throwing in a couple DHVs in my replies. Not done much qualifying as such yet, but will try; it's easier for some than for other cos they don't all have very much info on their public profiles.

generally, id stalk their wall, and then casually mention something, but yeah, thats just me

friend requests arent.. that big a thing as such.

also to keep in mind is the idea of them going cold, if you set a meeting up too far away, so, probs best to set up meetings while youre in the area/ a few days before.

Update: have just got an interesting reply from one of the HBs I contacted, which I'll be curious to get some views on how to respond to. She starts with:

HB: just looking for places to hang out or people as well?!

Then some advice on bars and stuff, and then some questions about my reasons for travelling and the kinda music I'm into. Oh, plus a Friend request

That's a few IOIs I reckon, but it's late and she's just back from a night out so possibly a bit overenthusiastic.

Any ideas what to reply? Throw in a little neg jokingly questioning whether she's cool enough to hang out with me? In normal game I know I could get away with that with a cheeky smile, but online this may be different. (Some advice I've read is to go easy on the negs in online game, esp. e-mail.)

dont over-qualify yourself, about music and what not,
push/pull and dhv.
probs get her email/number then set up a meet... 'you can show me around/tourguide' sort of thing.
remember, shes doing you a favour by showing you around.
