couple days ago, my fraternity hosted a party. unfortunately it was mostly a sausagefest, but there was one fairly decent set with a hb 8. i opened up the set and isolated my target, when one of my fraternity brothers inadvertanlty jumped into our conversation and made a really stupid remark, making the conversation awkward. frustrated, i went out for a smoke and when i came back, the same brother who distracted us before was kiss closing the same girl. it made me frustrated and made me realize how unaware some of the people around me are of their settings. i think this is a common trend around my frat, but i am not quite sure how to change this without losing much standing within my own fraternity...any suggestions?

Isolate your girl.

Just be ascertive and say "Hold on mate, I'm in the middle of a conversation" and carry on with what you were talking about.

"Wow, this guys kind of a jerk right? Think I'm gonna go outside for a smoke rather than put up with him, join me?"

Just sayin... seems like a perfect excuse to get her alone with you.

I like Onoma's idea a lot, the drawback being that some people don't like smoke.

The one I always use is to make a suggestion to go get a drink, snacks, cake, to go wait in line for beer pong, etc., whatever may be available at your party. If it is quite awkward that this guy jumped in, she will always accept, regardless of whether or not she wanted any of the above listed things. Then, create an inside moment by saying, "Wow that was awkward," or something of the sort. Now you have an experience and little bond between you.

If she rejects, which hasn't happened to me yet, then she is probably not as interested as you think she is.

In addition, I would make sure to have a cordial, polite, and non-threatening conversation with the guy and let him know you were in fact trying to get to know the girl better, and that he was interfering with your game. Frat parties are notorious for this kind of behavior, so are any of your friends who are heady or the AMOG type.
