I was talking to a girl a few nights ago and she mentioned that she found the whole indie/emo guy thing attractive.

I said I found it really lame and distinctly unattractive.

My question now is, was this the right approach? Should I have shot down her opinion so harshly because it's the complete opposite of what I am?

Any thoughts? I'd really like to know if I made a mistake here...

it was a shit test, with a little truth.

the better way to do it is play along and point out the specific unattractive characteristics but act like they're the shit.

"Yeah, those wrist scars always get the ladies going"

The way I see it, when it comes to opinions, I don't get in DIRECT opposition with a girl if we're talking seriously.

If the mood is serious, make a grimace and look at her as if she were joking, then change the subject. (if she goes back to it, very clearly say something like "I'm really not interested in talking about those guys". You wouldn't want to go out with a girl that likes something you hate now would you ? If she goes against that, it probably means that she has little respect for your opinion and that you can go onto your next target)

If the mood is all joky, you can throw a sarcastic line like : "Yeh, being an emo is such a dream for me... I would love having a feminine side so big it overflowed onto my hair and clothes !"

Seriously.... Don't take crap if it's really important to her. Agreeing isn't good, disagreeing isn't too good either if it REALLY matters to her. You have to diplomatically stay in the middle while making her understand you don't share her point of view.
