I've been hit on by guys who seem like they're players, but from what my friends tell me it's a completely different skill set. Gay men don't react the same way to an approach as women do. In fact, my friends describe it as "shoot first ask questions later" - a lot of gay guys will go have sex with someone they find hot and then figure out if they like the person. Most of the attraction is based on looks (yah, kinda shallow and sort of catty).
That said, I have one friend who is not very attractive but he always finds a handsome boy to go home with him. He's charismatic and talkative. He's figured out how to make it work, but the rules are different.
