Still you (whoever I adress) have no idea how many people here that has hangups about this entire concept. This thread is designed to say one thing and one thing alone. It is not about the techniques, it is about self improvement.

You're preaching to the choir on this point; I completely agree that the best thing guys can do to become more attractive to women is to craft rich, interesting lives for themselves. And that idea makes me curious to hear your thoughts on this question: do you think there are forum members who would be receptive to your message other than those who already have substantial lives? In other words, are there members of this forum who could stand to get a life but who are not impatient, "magic bullet" types?

At any rate, those who could benefit from your message might not know exactly what it means to "get a life." Naturally, there's an infinite list of things one might do, but maybe it would be helpful if we offered a few examples. Off the top of my head, these come to mind:
-read books (and not just books on pick-up)
-travel
-take up hobbies
-learn a foreign language
-exercise
-find a way to give voice to your spiritual side
-talk to people who have different ideas than you, and hear what they have to say
-try new and challenging experiences
-look within yourself to identify your fears, then take steps to overcome those fears
-in general, figure out what you're passionate about, and actively pursue those passions

I disagree entirely, this is about getting laid.

You can do what I did and use it to aid your self improvement, but PU is not a self improvement course. If I'm teaching a guy PU, I'm in a bar or on the street, giving him concepts to use and the motivation and tools to utilise those concepts.

I'm not sitting in his living room, helping him prioritise his lifestyle, or give him help with a healthy eating and sheduling in a morning job, I'm not motivating him to take a spanish language class or teaching him to speed read so he can read a meeting brief while flying to said meeting.

A PUA can aid himself with self improvement as can anyone in any proffession; but a PUA fits a particular social role. He looks for a particular social outcome and as such develops ways to move towards that outcome.

Well, we all have different goals. I too started out to get laid but in the end I focused more on developing myself. No I completely disagree with the ways in which you suggest self improvement. It is not about getting a hobby or something like that. It is about liberating your mind. Facing your fears and blasting them into nothingness.

I am sure that a lot of guys (the choir) wanna get a better life. The life they want is just not the life they achieve by learning to ride a motorbike or surfing. It is a life they can benefit from by developing their inner strength. Kill their demons.

I see pickup not as a final goal to get laid but as a step in achieving something bigger!

Of course everyone wants a better life! And everyone wants to be more confident etc.. but is that pick ups goal?

Pick up is a tool, it gets used for various different goals, but what it is, is studying how to get laid.

Martial arts, have often been used to help develop character -humility, courage, confidence, discipline-

But if you look at the history of MA, it's key feature is that it is a method used for defending yourself, incapacitating and even killing another person.

To this day that is still what a martial arts system focus's on, sure it's a far more common goal that martial arts are used as part of peoples fitness plan, and have kids sent to these schools to build their character.

But this does not change what a martial art is.. martial arts and PU are not defined by what the majority uses it for. They are defined by what they are, and what in their origonal un-abstracted state they represent.

PU is about getting laid. That may not be your objective, or what you use it for, and this neither re-inforces or detracts from your justification to pursue self-development in PU. But it does not change what PU is.

PU objectively is, guy walks into bar, guy approaches, guy talks, guy closes, guy goes home with girl. guy and girl have sex.

The semantics of PU meaning is ultimatly subjective, the only objective thing about it is.. that it involves getting laid through consentual sex. That is what defines PU that is what it "is".

Any ultimate meaning you sub-scribe to it is subjective.

You are right. Good parallel to the martial arts.
