Greetings, gentlemen. A question, and also a poll, on this subject.

I have long hair, down to the chest. Pretty much significantly longer than the average man, and quite a few women too. I am male, of course.

It has gotten me some positive attention from girls who are hairdressers, I sometimes get comments about how beautiful it is, and I've had more than one offer to come over and straighten/style it for me.

But I never really know how many others I may have turned off. How many girls that I've said hi to, took a look at the hair and decided to keep walking.

I'm interested in asking about everyone's experiences, either having long hair, seeing other guys with long hair talking to women, or even talking to women about long haired men. Or anything related. Is having long hair a good, or bad idea? would I be better suited to just cut it all off? Is long hair ok, but maybe just to the chest is too much, and I should cut some of it?

All replies appreciated, thank you in advance.

It probably depends on how you style it really.. As long as it's styled properly, suits you and doesn't look like hobo's hair then it's alright.
Also a big factor in my experience is what kind of girls you want to attract, some types of girls (rock chicks etc) dig long hair more than other types.
I used to have quite long hair, like down below my shoulders and would get a lot of compliments on it, girls coming up to me and touching it etc. But then some girls would clearly think it was stupid, but they didn't matter really because they weren't the types I would've gone for anyway..
So yeah my opinion is that if it attracts the types of girls you want to attract, and it looks good and goes well with the rest of your style, then keep it.
And I'd be stoked if girls were offering to come over and 'style my hair' for me ;) good work.

ahhh the long hair. i rocked that shit for about a year and a half, i was going for the metalhead look because metal has been a huge part of my life for years. it was such a bitch to deal with ( washing it for 20-30 minutes at a time, rats nests, getting it in my eyes, getting all greasy and gross as fuck whenever i was skating, making my head hot as fuck whenever i was skating, brushing and combing it, having it curl in weird ways when i didnt want it to etc.) one day i finally realized i can look however the fuck i want and still rock the band shirts and be a metalhead. my acne was horrible because of it so i finally decided to shave it all off. The next few days at school girls i had never talked to were complimenting me on how much better i looked with a buzz (unfortunately i didn't know shit about PU at the time so it didn't go much farther than that). most of my acne has cleared up and getting ready for the day is about 20 minutes shorter. its just way simpler and it makes you look more like a man to have short hair. i've also talked to girls who think the whole long hair metalhead look is creepy, but i dont know if you're going for that or the hippie look

i say shave it just to see how many different responses you get from HB's, even though it takes a while to grow back.

It shouldn't matter seeing as its just hair.....and if you like it, thats all that should matter.......then again this is coming from a guy who has long 80s metal hair...

How you look doesn't mean anything regarding being a man whatsoever. Its how you are.

.......and those are the types to stay away from because if the length of a guy's hair is what matters, then they're pretty shallow.

I went it doesn't make a difference but then re-thought it.

If you got long hair it needs to be styled, get some layers, choppy edges whatever just make sure it isn't just straight out long hair with no styling (you can get ass with that but get it styled and you will get more).

Also it helps go under the radar, it is rare I have to AMOG because most guys see me as not a threat, as do the women.

You an also work the bad boy angle a lot better wit long hair and be a taste of something different for a lot of club girls.

I am actually involved in the UK black and death metal scene and believe me if you have long hair and style it too much, most people involved will think you're a fag. That shit is for emo kids and nu-metallers! :P

Anyway I also used to have long hair at one point and since chopping it off even people in the metal scene have said it looks better for me these days. It is also a relief not having to take care of it anymore plus I don't get chavs making threats to beat me up for being a 'grebo' (though even if they did I'd usually have a go at them or punch the little cunts)

I have however had very attractive and 'normal' (read non-rock/metal) chicks say that they don't get why men assume women don't like guys with long hair as they did point out they really don't give a shit. I also know guys who openly dress 'metal' and still get normal girls come onto them.

Also aside from that there are men who are regarded as attractive with long hair, look at Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow, Viggo Mortenson as Aragorn, Orlando Bloom as Legolas or indeed sticking to the real world there's the likes of Motley Crue, Kiss, The Darkness and even Russell Brand.

Its what you feel comfortable with at the end of the day. I chopped mine off because it made me look like Neil from The Young Ones.

It really doesn't matter... It's your appearance that matters. If you feel more confident with long hair - go for it.

But pickup-wise, it doesn't matter. It's your skills in the game that matter.

Mystery = Long haired master pick up artist.
Style = Bald master pick up artist.

i have been growing my hair for about 6 years now, and everyday i get atleast 4 complements about my hair. i recall reading long hair reprisents going agenst the norm and/or rebel, creative and it is a good peacock. weman of all ages come up and ask if they can touch the hair.

short hair is seen as a following the regular. for women it shows judgment. it also shows being apart of something. think if military with that example.

thats what i can remember reading about hair.

long hair is a great way to get attention and short hair is a good way to be presentable. each have there perks and the shock of cuting the hair is a good way to get attention for a little while but it will only last for so long before they see you for what you might still be or forget about it.

that is my two cents. hope it was help full.

Be interesting to know a little about this, too.
As far as I'm aware, a disproportionately large percentage of black guys have extremely short hair. Always wondered why
