using their name ? and why do i always say "sup"?

When I walk into my high school classes and they say hi or i say "sup" first , or sometimes i say whats up. I want to say something more like "hey , hows it going " or "whats going on "

But for some reason I can't stop saying sup or what sup , it's like i say it without even thinking.

what am i asking is sup bad ? or would you rather use something else.

Also is it important to say their name when seeing them or does it matter ? i know it could make it feel more personal? thanks

i see nothing wrong with "sup" but try something like "hey, how have you been" cause sup is a bit, naff :P

In my opinion, "sup" is kinda lame. "What's up" is alright or "How's it going?"

And yes, saying someone's name does make it more personal. When I worked at a call center, they would evaluate you to make sure you say the customers name at least twice in the conversation as it makes it feel more personal. And personally, whenever a customer said my name back to me it would give me a feel like, "oh, this guy was nice enough to remember my name."
