For some reason I always end up saying "sup"

When I walk into my high school classes and they say hi or i say "sup" first , or sometimes i say whats up. I want to say something more like "hey , hows it going " or "whats going on "

But for some reason I can't stop saying sup or what sup , it's like i say it without even thinking.

what am i asking is sup bad ? or would you rather use something else.

Also is it important to say their name when seeing them or does it matter ? i know it could make it feel more personal? thanks

I personally wouldn't say sup to girls, guys yes...

I would usually say "Hey *name*, how are you?"

Also make sure you look them in the eyes while doing this, girls & guys. It shows you respect them.
