Yeah, you read it, now you cant unread it. Thanks to Jez for that text she puts after her posts (forgot the word).

Just who the hell do you think you are?

Ah... Thats the one.

Let me ask you a question. Why dont you think that you are better than that?

You are a realist? Ok, makes sense. But you know this might damage your development.

Every single one of us can benefit from improvement. If we judge ourselves lower than our actual status (state, mindset, value whatever) we risk falling, we risk becoming worse. If we are completely correct we might not progress as much as we could.

On the other hand, if we think that we are a little better than we actually are, we can identify what we are exaggerating. If we can do that we can get an idea of what is holding us back from becoming what we wanna be. Often the answer is, ourselves. We are holding ourselves back just because we dont think that we have the right to be that awesome guy. We are afraid because what if somebody finds out that we are in fact a loser? Well, nobody will find out. A lot of people will tell you so but they will be wrong. You will grow into the person that you think you are. Before you know it you have increased your (value?, awesomeness?) status.

So let me ask you again, who the hell do you think you are? Well stop thinking that and aim for the sky.

I've already posted somewhere on the forum this particular poem, but i will post it one more time since i believe that it says a lot.

IF

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream–and not make dreams your master,
If you can think–and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ‘em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on!”

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings–nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And–which is more–you’ll be a Man, my son!

–Rudyard Kipling-

I will let you think about it :)

P.s Ezo, i believe the word that you are looking for is signature?

Cheers
Jez

Thanks! Signature!

That poem said a lot. People (me included) think to little when we hear poetry and music. Really many people have said a lot in their songs but people never get that.

Awesome! People, read that poem and dont just go through it fast. It has some good points.

Untouchable, non needy, humble yet powerful, nothing to prove... Its the lion story all over! :)

Absoloutly, I'm just worried about the amount of spiritual and philosophical theorising that is getting dragged into PU.

Something in the back of my head keeps on leaning over to me and going...

"You know.... This is how cults form"

Honestly, with the way men are becoming more submissive, THIS is one thing that needs to become a cult.

Im not afraid of that at all. Sure some people just follow but we teach people that they should think for themselves and not care about what others try to force on them. There will always be people who are too blind to see that they are too controlled. Im glad they choose this "cult" instead of some crazy violent cult.

We can think that, but it's a far too dangerous assumption to make that things won't go wrong, because we are in charge.

Cult like thinking destroys free-thought. I mean people can bang on about how free speech is rife, but no one seems to really take advantage of this. I've yet to see anyone really Disagree on a strong intellectual level with anyone else.

I mean I agree that embracing change is great. But I'm willing to bet I am the first in a lognt ime to go..

Woah! Hold you horses folks, lets keep spirituality out of this.

So far you just post something about "Change" and "getting out of your comfort zone" and everyone will just patt you on the back and shout "Right on Brah *insert another regurgitated rambling about change*"

It's been along time since anyone has said...

"Hey... I thought this is about meeting people of the opposite sex. What if I don't want to massively uproot my life to take on some wierd self fullfillment course which looks like a blatant bastardisation of buddhism?

What if I just want some confidence with women? What if I just want to get laid now and again?

I mean yeah change is part of that... but I don't need to yell and howl like I'm at a spiritual retreat which is going to bring me to one with the world..."

The responce will always be another rambling about how "you need to change to become better.... *trail off into another rant about change*"

This place is becoming homogonised, overly spiritual and indoctrinational.. A couple of people like Hobbit and I.Smith once commented on this kinda thing in the community and I dismissed it.

But I'm actually getting more and more worried about where this is starting to head. I know the community isn't going to move to full scale cult status. We have a good couple of members who will throw the breaks when that happens.

I'm concerned about the mindset we breed, and how we feel the need to constantly re-warp peoples world even outside of PU when they come here.

I don't understand how these two things are equated.

I miss that guy :( I've been actually thinking of writing a post on this sometime in the future, with the psychological stuff behind it :) But I think a lot of this comes from the new PUA trend RSD's Blueprint.

There are several criteria outlined in the psychological definition of a cult. Here is basically what they are:
1) The cult leadership must either economically, physically, and/or psychologically isolates members from the rest society. This isolation breeds an environment where the belief system indoctrinated into members goes unquestioned.
2) Limiting the group members’ access to outside of information. Once the cult has lured people in through heuristic techniques, the cult then controls the information to reinforce this decision through cognitive thought.
3) Presenting an alternate social order which goes against the thoughts of the outside society.
4) The existence of an imminent apocalyptic event, which either threatens their alternate social order or is an actual end of the world event.
5) A single, all powerful, charismatic leader, who is inextricably linked to the group and their ideologies.

My worries of PUA turning into a cult are not very strong, because a few of these criterion do not happen in PUA. Now, a lair or new "Project Hollywood" could spin off a cult which would then demonize the broader community (Muslim extremists to Islam, for example) but that has yet to happen.

Crimes of Obedience is my major concern when it comes to PUA. I think that is far more likely to happen and I bet it already occurs. That's what my future post would be about.
Often people like the law flux and the turth of "grasping" and then take this spiritual slant to back their world view and speak about "change".

I would love to see that post Hobbit keep me noted on it :) And damn RSD!!! grrrrrrrrrr!! Good stuff, but it's started a pendulum swing acting as an extreme reaction to MM and routine based game.

I'm well aware of the flaws in that, and I shout and bitch about those flaws as much as anyoe does. But the trend is so common and overly zelous, that it's quite intellectually aggressive.

For example last time I mentioned I wasn't aversed to the idea of a DHV, the next question I was asked was "Whether or not I lie to girls".

While that may not be implying anything, it's representative of the extreme connotations that we have with a school of thought that opposes us.

For the 5 traits you've listed 4 of them (admittedly they would have to be twisted a bit) could fit the community.

There seems to be a lot of posts on the topic of "ego", "change" and "new life".

I.Smith once critiqued the community members for believing that PU should be used in conjuction with "destroying the old self". And its this attitude of completely reworking your identity which fits in with this idea of "destroying the self". Which is just a dangerous attitude to have if it's unregulated.

Alot of stuff we post about, including this thread, is better left for the chat or inter-personal discussion or at the very least when in thread hotly contested by a critic.

It barely touches on PU and it seems to just be an attempt to win people over to a particular spiritual mindset and lifestyle, rather than explain something pertinent to game.
