I've been on the field a few times, I've done some approaches, but I still have MASSIVE AA. I've been opened on a few times, only to get blown out because I didn't know what to say or how to respond (before I learned pickup I've never been opened on).

If I can barely succeed at the first step, how will it be possible to get to the next one? and the one after?

I've been going out consistently for maybe a month to a month and a half now, but its now dawned at me that I may never get the results I want.

Hey bro! I just went through a divorce and was REAL rusty at game. What has helped me is googling The Pick up Artist and seeing everything in action. I would also pick up Neil Strauss "Rules of the game" thats been helping me get back on track. Alot of the stuff they teach is step by step and is alot like what me and they guys would do to get girls.

try reading some more books, see on youtube or whatever how the real pua's do it, try to find your own style and it can be helpfull to have a wing only if its just for your confidence

There is only 1 cure: OPEN as much as you can. There is no magic pill. Find a wing that pushes your boundaries. If that doesn't work, try to do a bootcamp. I saw for example a documentary on Dutch TV about Gambler's bootcamp and I am really impressed in the way they helped some nerds out in just 1 week. One of them was scared to open but at the end of the week he did open many girls. In the beginning of the docu he looked very nervous and nerdy, at the end he had a glance of rest and confidence over himself. I was really impressed.

I'm not even sure it's a lack of confidence (although it does play a role). It has more to do with the readings I've been doing and people who have done pickup for a lot longer than I have, don't even get laid or are not even successful. I feel I have the drive to not give up on this, but odds aren't looking too great when most people say it's against you. I want to get good at this and not just be another statistic, but at the same time I'm afraid I CAN'T get good.

Instead of writing " I cant " and building that image in your head ( that you cant do it ) even stronger via writing is something that wont help you.

If those friends of you who are in pickup are currently faling in pickup it must be because they are doing things wrong. Be sure to not make the same mistakes. Analyze them and try to find what they are doing wrong. Pay attentio to their grooming, body language, voice tonality, confidence they display, are their conversation fun, ... For sure you will see they make mistakes.

Try doing the noob challenge that's stickied, works wonders for AA. We all have it at some point. Good luck and never give up.

In the approaching and opening section there is a thread that has a great method that helps entirely eliminate AA for me and fits with the caveman/gunwitch method.

You know that girl you want to talk to? She wants to fuck your brains out. She even has a vibrator named after you and uses it everynight thinking about all the things you want to do to her.
