The layperson might think that Bruce Lee just added "one new kick" to his arsenal but it's simply not the way things work. He realized the shortcomings of his style and DESTROYED IT. With an open mind, he sought a completely new way to use his body.
It's interesting to me that we could easily substitute the word
religion in kasabi and Bruce Lee's discussion of not being fixed to any one style. Many people feel so thoroughly convinced of the unique truth of their religion that they stand ready to kill and die for it. But the truly enlightened soul understands there is one fundamental truth interlacing all religions and that the various religions are simply different ways of expressing that truth. And the enlightened soul has the courage and wisdom to take good ideas from myriad sources. Bruce Lee did it with his martial arts. And we can do it with pick-up and in the rest of our lives. Because, as Lee said at the end of that clip, the key is to "express oneself honestly" -- to manifest, without pretense, one's best and truest self.
