With all due respect JS, the view of texting to be just be for short conversations is very very wrong for anyone under 20.
Growing up with texts, internet etc you learn that socialising doesn't have to take all of your attention. Most people don't like having to sit on a phone and give all their attention to it. A text on the other hand can be replied to when it is convenient - waiting 5 mins to answer someone's question on the phone may seem a little rude
Now obviously, there is a time and a place for texting - confessions of love or a break up may not be suited to a text message. But texting does give the illusion of spending more time with someone, IT MAKES THE TARGET INVEST!
Let me explain:
scenario 1 - phone call:
10:00 - 10:30 = only thinking about me
10:30 - 5:00 = thinking about their life
Scenario 2 - texting:
10:00 - 10:02 = thinking of me
10:02 - 10:15 = thinking of their life
10:15 - 10:17 = thinking of me again
10:17 - 10:30 = getting on with life
10:30 - 10:33 = yay, another text from me!
10:33 - 10:45 = their life
10:45 - 10:46 = oh, he hasn't text me, i wonder what he is doing
10:46 - 10:47 = YAY he text me
I hope you get the idea - its a pavlo's dog effect, conditioning them to think about you frequently.
I look forward to your perspective on it
