I've been out with a girl a couple times now, and she almost seems to be actively avoiding eye contact. Given that maintaining good eye contact is supposed to be important, what should this tell me about the girl and what should I do about it?

She's uninterested and her initial attraction is waning.

Any allowance for the possibility of a girl being shy? I mean, one of the reasons we're supposed to maintain eye contact is so that we don't look nervous...

In either case, is there anything I could have done to turn things around?

Well, I assume this is the same girl you're were on about last time. The girl who apparently flirts with bouncers?

In my experience, the lack of eye contact is a bad thing. I mean sure she could be shy, but you've already hung out with her so I'd call it an indicator of dis-interest.

And actions speak LOUDER than words. That text msg might not mean anything...I assume you still haven't kiss closed this girl either.

I was in exactly the same situation. She wouldn't look at me directly and stare into space. A couple of days later she declared me 'just a friend...'

I think the text she sent says a few things other than what she actually said, but I posted an update to the other thread in the interest of keeping this one on track. Feel free to weigh in! (By which I mean, please weigh in: headed-for-friend-zone-vt57318.html )

Ok, so I just remembered I have a book on body language and decided to look up some of the things she was doing. I probably should have been specific that her eyes were darting from side to side.

Turns out this is a sign of insecurity with a situation. The book goes on to say that people may have the urge to do this when talking to a boring person (looking for an escape route) but I think the fact that she continued to spend 3 hours with me, go to a different venue AND agreed to a second date probably means I didn't bore her that badly.

I'm concluding she's nervous about dating me...

Hmm... that may not be a good thing.
