But if there is/are another competer(s), being too inactive will mean losing the chance. So, how to strike a balance between them?

It's a tricky question to ask because we don't know all the logistics involved.
Or you could just go up to her and tell her that you're really into her and that you find her sexy. Then withdraw attention for a bit. Your choice.
