After reading articles like the Cosmo one posted recently, and seeing documentaries, it's pretty obvious that PUAs are getting more and more exposure.

Whilst I think we'd all love to be part of some very small community "in the know" about these things, the fact is only more and more people will start coming to these sites, going to bootcamps, and being seen rolling into clubs peacocking. I think we all need to accept that canned material is out because too many people know about it and use it, and as such mPUAs are teaching more and more natural game strategies so that their students don't get caught using these "lines."

As I see it, PU is destined to remain with us. It will not be some "fad" that people remember like "oh remember like in the 80s when ppl had that crazy hair, oh yeah, hey remember when PU was cool in the 2000s, yeah that was lame" because these techniques do work and are powerful, and most guys, when they learn about them, can't get enough.

Looking forward, I think that the most likely scenario is that, over the next few decades, PU books, bootcamps, and fora like this one will just become another aspect of the self-help industry. Nobody nowadays thinks about a friend reading "How to Win Friends and Influence People" as a negative thing, as if they're learning how to "manipulate" people, etc. Nobody thinks badly of a guy who spends a few thousand on a gym membership and reads and posts on a bodybuilding forum about form, technique, and nutrition. Once PU becomes part of our culture in a major way, it will be seen in the same light as all of those things - just another way for guys to improve an aspect of their life.

I agree with most of this although I don't believe pickup will ever become so mainstream that it becomes just as natural as joining a forum for body building or anything like that. I don't think this will ever be a "Cool" thing to be a part of as seen by the majority of the population just because of the social stigma surrounding it.

Not going to happen.

I signed up for a bootcamp next month, and to be honest I found the act of actually booking pretty difficult and demoralising.

Styles wrote about this in 'The Game', describing withdrawing the money for Mystery's bootcamp as 'not a proud day' (maybe not an exact quote). Making the decision to actually do this stuff is a big step and involves conquring years of conditioning that suggests that, as a guy, you shouldn't need to do this and somehow you are a bit weird for doing it. (Which you are! Lets never lose sight of the fact that, for all the positives this can bring it is a bit weird.)

And even if every fucker on the planet started doing this, at the end of the day, pickup is about how to become an attractive person. It's still going to work. It would just mean girls have to pick between 'attractive guys' and 'really attractive guys'. Which certainly the girls I know wouldn't complain about.

The pick-up arts today are advanced far beyond what they were ten years ago. In 1999, neuro-linguistic programming and Speed Seduction were _the_ way to learn how to pick up girls. Now, there's a thriving industry of "gurus" that teach a hundred varieties of pick-up. In my city alone, there is one large company and many individuals offering bootcamps. Each comes from a different school of pick-up. And that's in CANADA.

So what does the future of the art look like? Fuck, if I knew, I'd be writing it down and selling the shit out of it. Which is, honestly, the state of the art in the present. It's an industry more than anything right now, and that industry will be the drive for innovation and advancement. I honestly think that in ten or twenty years, pick-up will be so divergent from what we know at present that if we were to look at it today, we'd barley recognize it.

And despite the fact that pick-up, right now, is about becoming more attractive, it wasn't always, and the pendulum may swing again. It could very easilly revert to "manipulating women into nakedness with my Amazing Jedi Mind Powers." To be honest, that tack has some validity to it, in that many AFCs would be immediately turned off by that mentality, allowing pick-up a level of "undergroundness" that it hasn't enjoyed for many years now. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the art seperate into a number of schools of thought, each focusing on a different aspect: the Manipulation School, the Self Improvement School (and _that_ movement's already been started at PUAL), the Become a Doctor to Get Chicks School (a classic), the Hypnosis School, the Be Queer to Get Chicks School, a whole bunch of different parts of pick-up seperating into their own little distinct entities. But who knows? I'm rambling now. ^_^
