This helps with having some social value as soon as you walk in the venue, although it's not completely necessary if you are good at working the venue from the start.
I don't think it's a bad thing to have people with you who don't know about game. As long as they're not total losers and are bringing your value down, they can't hurt. I just break off from the group, open some sets, come back in, maybe make some introductions, especially if I want to distract an obstacle or two, etc. No need for everyone in the group to be a level 97 mPUA to do that.
