and besides. in modern day times child support is only 'required' when the mother is incapable of paying for the child herself at all, or the father still wants to be allowed to visit the kid.
No, child support is mandatory regardless. Men have very little rights or say!

well, not in California. In California the person caring for the child has to be dependent on the other's income for survival, or the other has to be retaining some of their rights to the child.

Sign away your rights and you don't have to pay.

just because half your DNA was given to a kid in a .01% chance doesn't make it necessary to provide for it. ESPECIALLY when having a kid would basically destroy the life you've built, as is standard case with unplanned unmarried births.

I wouldn't want to take care of the kid. They'd have to get my social security number first.

Anyway I think the guy should be able to pull out, so to speak.

This is a very controversial subject.
In my opinion, I think the circumstances by which it happens is very important, if the guy took precautions (uses a condom for example) or the girl (if in a LTR) says she is on the pill, then holding a guy to financial support isn't fair. On this note, I have a few friends of friends who have had women lie to them about being on the pill so they get pregnant and they get child support along with a government house etc etc.

However, I also feel if the man takes no responsibility before sex (like not using any contraceptive etc) then they SHOULD have to help look after the child.

The problem with my way of thinking, is generally there are only 2 people involved when contraception occurs, and if the guy says one thing and the woman says another, there is very little in the way of other evidence.

In conclusion, if your in doubt about the risk of pregnancy (specifically on girls you don't know well and them saying they are on the pill) you should always use a condom (not only for pregnancy but also STI's).

But in my mind if we have a man and a woman, and they have sex and the man wants out after she finds out shes pregnant, then he should be able to do so. After all women have a body to maintain, and they make choices, some which land them with responsibilities that they have to take care off.

I don't think its fair for men at all. If she won't get a abortion then thats her problem!

Women want to be equal and expect equal responsibility, so why don't they? It's their bodies, their choice to go through with giving birth... I just don't get how this law works.

McCulley states:

'When a female determines she is pregnant, she has the freedom to decide if she has the maturity level to undertake the responsibilities of motherhood, if she is financially able to support a child, if she is at a place in her career to take the time to have a child, or if she has other concerns precluding her from carrying the child to term. After weighing her options, the female may choose abortion. Once she aborts the fetus, the female's interests in and obligations to the child are terminated. In stark contrast, the unwed father has no options. His responsibilities to the child begin at conception and can only be terminated with the female's decision to abort the fetus or with the mother's decision to give the child up for adoption. Thus, he must rely on the decisions of the female to determine his future. The putative father does not have the luxury, after the fact of conception, to decide that he is not ready for fatherhood. Unlike the female, he has no escape route'.

I think thats cool.
