I'm finding that when interacting a with a set I come off as cocky and arrogant and not very funny.

I've never been a "really funny" guy. Any ideas on how to dial up the humor?

The show Californiacation is a perfect example of mixing arrogance and humor but even after watching the entire first season I still cant seem to produce.

Any other good shows or movies out there I can watch to get some examples?

thanks guys!

Hi shakeonzo.. I'm still quite new here but hope I can help. I'm not very good at being cocky but I'm okay when it comes to making people laugh. I think the best thing you can do is to watch a lot of funny stuff. Most importantly, laugh at what you find funny and develop a sense of humour.
I watch Simpsons every week day and two episodes on a Saturday if I'm home. I really enjoy it and find the humor interesting in how it makes me laugh. Some other good shows are Friends, My Name is Earl, King of Queens, Everybody Loves Raymond, Will & Grace, Frasier, Futurama, Family Guy, Tom and Jerry, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, etc.. By watching shows like these on a regular basis you will soon pick up structures on how to produce your own humour.
Another thing you could do is read about comedy. There is a classic book which I used in my dissertation about humour in art photography called 'Comedy Writing Secrets' by Melvin Helitzer. I also read other books but this is a really useful one that you can read in more or less any order.
Just out of curiosity.. Do you laugh and find things funny? You might want to try finding what you find funny in media that has similar humour. This way you'll begin to enjoy humour and comedy more, which is always a good thing.
Also, something I've not done, is try joining an 'improv' class and learn how to do comedy that way.
A product I came across which is helpful in this area is David DeAngelo' Cocky Comedy.
  :D  8)

Even though I watch some of these cartoons, I'm still hopelessly barely funny......though I'm great at being cocky.

two things that i did to dial up my funny are:
1 - take an improv class / join an improv club. these are great ways to help you think on your feet in a funny way. and if you cannot join a class/club - look up on youtube for how to improv, theres a pretty good series on there somewhere and also buy a book on improv, buy a mirror, and practice.
2 - i stopped caring what people think about me. somtimes humor is saying the truth in a very blunt way that other people are too afraid to say.

i know those might seem 'too simple' or not elaborate enough, but trust me. i used to be the secluded, alienated, ostracized, generic, not funny loser. now im halarious (from what ive heard) and those are the two big steps to getting there

happy gaming!
-rep? lol

stop giving a shit about what others think about your humor or whatever..
everyone has a different sense of humor.. some girls just laugh because im bein very cocky without humor and some don't.

Just improvise .. let the girl talk about a subject - just say yeah , uhuh and ok and meanwhile think '' what is fun about this subject - what would i laugh about when talking about the subject. You need to express your feelings and end with a joke - never let girls know your serious or not serious when talking about un-emotional subject ( dont make wrong jokes about certain subjects like diseases etc)

sometimes i used canned jokes .. jokes it old before - when visiting my friends in the gym or at college i always try to make jokes or being cocky+fun.
This way i have enough inspiration when needed.

Do the cocky stuff with a smile, absolutely right. Especially if you're negging, u gotta smile otherwise you come across like a dick.

Also, never laugh at your own jokes, unless the whole group starts laughing too and then it's ok to join in.

One way to use humour in the context of PU is taking what somebody says to the point of ridiculousness, and/or purposefully misunderstanding what somebody's said. For example HB: "So you wanna buy me a drink?" PUA: "You wanna buy ME a drink? Girl, you can't just walk up to a guy and hit on him like that, I mean, you're coming on way too strong, you gotta learn to be more subtle! (to obstacle): Wow she's pretty intense, huh? You can dress her up but you can't take her anywhere!" Said with a smile, this may well get her to giggle and blush, and will certainly help take her down a peg and get her to start proving herself to you.

I also recommend watching stand up comedy, rather than scripted shows. Stand up taught me a lot about good story telling. A good comic can make the trip from their house to the shops into a hilarious tale, simply by their use of good timing, exaggeration, and emphasis in the right places. Another element of storytelling in general that comics use, is they don't just say "so I went here, then the guy said this, and I said that, etc." which can get boring unless you have an excellent supply of one-liners. They say, "so this guy says this to me, and I'm thinking 'wow, hold on a minute, this guy said THAT, that's like if somebody came up to you and said THIS, right?'" As in, they tell you what's going through their mind, how they're feeling, as the events are happening. This paints a more visceral picture of what's happening which is easier to get people invested in and resonate with. Once you've drawn someone into your tale and got them emotionally invested, they care more about the ending (i.e. they are more attuned when your punchline arrives) and it's easier to infuse them with your enthusiasm and humour when you tell it.

If you have troubles holding your laugh of the 'cocky' comment you made, than that is cocky and funny. Don't care if the girl sees you as a cocky asshole. Just try to make yourself laugh, not the girl. You should entertain yourself, not the girl. In the meanwhile you watch her response and if you see that you were to cocky, you just try the same routine on someone else but a little bit modified with less cockiness. You keep continuing like this until your comment is cocky funny. That is my 2 cent.
