Why is everyone here trying to qualify themselves?
More like, why is everyone here posting in a thread from
2006?
Because this topic will always be relevant no matter what year it is.
You made many good points bigblack, and I'm very glad you took the time to reply to my post, which I'm sure many people will read, besides what Stirlee says lol. You made me realize that even though we are both black, we still deal with this issue very differently. I've come to realize that no one perspective is truly the same as the other. We all have different life experiences, and it's our job to make do with them. Other experiences should only be looked to as guidance, not law.
Still, I think your post proved that I am right in the fact that human is always human. What you seem to do is look past their fearful culture and make a connection regardless, where both you and your target are on a more equal level, correct? That's what I meant in my previous post. I'm quite sure there may be much more to push through in terms of resistance in German culture (and others as well), but once you do are you not on level terms with the girl you are spending time with? Does she not see you as a person with whom she wants to pursue a relationship with? That's what being equal means to me, going to a girl and talking to her long enough to get her on the same level as me, regardless of culture or race. Sure it's not possible sometimes, but i don't get discouraged by that. It's cool that you don't either.
Culture and race do matter, a lot more than I ever thought thanks to your insights, but it's still just an obstacle, a veil that obscures the truth: that we are all made of the same organs inside and out, and when you remove all the cultures and races, have the same emotional needs and dreams.
"In your (Mike Tyson's) documentary, you said 'I just want to have a better life'. And I realized that's what every body wants. That's what every single person on this planet wants."
