What do you do when the group starts talking about something you know nothing about??

I usually get into this situation when a group will start talking about sports like baseball or basketball and I just don't know what to say.

listen and learn, and wait for an opportunity.

generally if you're constantly ending up in conversations about sports, you should learn some things to say in the next one.

thats how I learned everything there is to know about WoW lol 1 person would say something and i'd stash the info and use it later.

Yeah just listen lean back! relax, smile! if they wanna lead the conversation and you have nothing to say, then don't say anything.

If you're in a 2+ set then you can roll off the set and open one close by, and then merge sets or re-engage later. If you are committed to staying in the set because you don't feel you've really hooked them yet, then my best advice is to not look around the room looking bored - you want to seem vaguely interested and be looking at the person talking, so that they are looking at you. This is because you are losing value when there's a conversation going on in your group and nobody is looking at you. Even if you're not talking, try to arrange the group dynamic / your body language so you still look like you're part of the interaction. And yes, obviously be interested in what people have to say because you might actually learn something interesting!

if you find yourself feeling odd about getting back into the conversation, then like go to the bathroom and when you get back hop back in.
