Well i've been at uni 2 years now and its a big group of us that go out.. probably 70/30 on the girl/boy ratio... So it's hard to get a girls attention to start with as they assume that one of the girls is with you..
I need a fair bit of dutch courage and by that time most of the decent girls have been taken

Dont take this the wrong way mate but help is at hand. The best wing you can ever have is a woman! The fact your out with more women gives you an air of preselection which can help so much. Ive chosen to live with three women and one lad this year. Every time i go out i let it be well seen that im with my flat mates, i buy the first round and make sure i make them all laugh within the first few minutes. By doing this ive just shown the whole room im pre selected and good fun.

Then its time for the rounds, i go around the club saying hi to people i know (Which counts as my scout for HB's) Then ill open my first set immediately, its most likely the closest one to me at the time.

My recommendation for you is to try the same but open your first set as quickly as possible perhaps at the bar when you first get in. It puts you in the mood for the night and gets rid of some approach anxiety.

How do you open then?
I've been reading through the forum for different way's people have done it.. What would you say works best for you?

My openers are normaly situational or spontanious. By situational ill make a comment to her mate like "Hey, you looked like alot of fun, and i couldnt not come over and involve you in the party me and my friends are having tonight" It realy doesnt matter what you use to open it could be anything but as it says in gamblers book always open with a greating as if there is music she mite not hear what you first say if she isn't paying attention.
A spontanious opener and my favorite for the first set is to bring a single flower with a cut stem for my first opener. Ill go straight to my target (which is a pua no no but has worked for me more often than not) and make it look like ive just taken it from behind her ear and hit out with the line; "God how long has that been there". I then hand the flower over and say "it looks pretty-er on you"(followed by a wink) If she gives me some chat then i will stay and work the set. If she is georgous i will walk away and say nothing else, leaving her dazzled lol. The fact is i know she is not going anywhere and ive already set into play her thinking about me. Again it doesnt matter what you say its how you say it. Be fun confident and believe that she would be lucky to spends the night with you rather than you with her.

at a student night last night.. just got chatting to these 3 girls about absolute shit.. got to near the end of the night and i just told her i've got to leave her now.. she asked y and I said that if i stayed any longer she'd end up falling for my yorkshire charm.. gave her a kiss on the cheek and she gave me her number.

Few good books out there...

Without taking mainstream big names like Mystery, Strauss or DeAngelo into consideration, I personally enjoyed "How to Become An Alpha Male" by John Alexander. It is fun to read, straight to the point, gives a lot of motivation and has loads of useful stuff in it.
"Magic Bullets" by Savoy wasn't bad either.

I would suggest avoiding "Guy Gets Girl" (useless sh*t, 0/5) and "Get the Girl!" (basically rewrites pickup material, but in a very annoying and boring style) like plague.
Thundercat/Joseph Matthews "Art of Approaching" is pretty shallow as well, yet I have to admit, his book-promoting e-mails were very good, so I fell for it.
