I've known the girl for a while but we've never been on a proper date. I've heard that cinema's a pretty bad idea and to be honest I want to do something less conventional. Especially as it's going to be a surprise date, i.e. I'm going to say "I'll pick you up on XXX at XXX, don't worry about where we're going, just wear something bright/comfortable/etc". So preferably something fun.

I was thinking maybe a picnic where we bring each others food but then how do I make that more fun? Where else could I take her/what else could I do with her? I was also considering Badminton but this girls extreme LSE so I don't think she'd go for that.

Any ideas?

Hey man, yeah Cinemas sucks, never go there till at least date 4 or 5, unless your not that into them and theres a really good film your dying to watch.

I usually just go for coffee or meet in a bar.

A few good ideas are, Ice Skating, you can hold hands etc and if your a crap skater you should big up how good you are, she'll love seeing you fall over etc, or if your good, play it down and show off alittle, going swimming can be good, especially if its at a lake or something, you could perhaps combine it with your picnic idea which i think is very good(you could say bring your favourite X food, and a swim suit).

Also, tell her to bring something stupid to throw her off e.g like if your meeting at night, tell her to bring her sunglasses, just something to joke about when u pick her up.

Hope this helps

Sounds like your knowledge is up to date from what I have read. I also agree that a cinema date is a bad idea especially on the first date. It is such a common typical date thing to do, I avoid cinemas when I can. I usually only do it when there isn't anything else I can think of, which isn't a bad thing.

Anyways, remember to be prepared to accept rejection. If she says the time or date or whatever won't work, just say "Fine, I will take someone else" with some addition of "You don't know what your missing out on" if you want. Or if she says the time wont work but maybe some other time, say something like "Oh, well I can't reschedule for about a week". (Shows you have better things to do)

Assuming she accepts your date, don't worry about if she likes it. It is about you having fun, plan it the way you want. If you go through with the picnic idea, bring eachothers food could work. Bring her something disgusting as a joke, then bring your planned meal that is acceptable. Going to a park or playing badminton should be ok, remember it's your decision. She might be suprised that you want to play badminton, and it would be funny if she wore something nice.

Hope you both have fun, and if you pick up on that she isn't I would say end it and call it an experiment that you can learn from.

hey man

i have to agree with everyone that the cenima is a bad idea. im at a point now where im trying to think of a good, fun thing to do on a first date.
Im really thinking of the zoo. Its a little different. Your able to talk and make fun of some of the stuff animals do and your also going to be able to hold hands and find a more quiet place if u want to k-close.
It is totally up to u tho mate because if your having fun then the young lass will as well.

The beach if you live near the coast or maybe a carnival/theme park etc.

A lot of hate on the cinema here I see. I'll admit I was one of those guys too because I saw no opportunity to converse. But then I read another thread on this very forum that opened my eyes to the potential of the cinema. Great opportunities to kino escalate and act playful, depends on the movie you're going to watch of course too. But you shouldn't just meet then go straight into the cinema and then go home afterwards, perhaps meet before hand to chat away then watch the movie. I'd recommend an actiivty beforehand otherwise you may have reached a dead end at the end of the movie and not know what to say.

Anyhow since you're looking for a proper date with this girl then you can either go with the fun date like a theme park, the romantic date - picnic, posh restaurant/bar, adventurous - something sporty mountain climbing, hiking, relaxing - beach, interesting - shopping in funky shops in eclectic neighbourhoods, funny - comedy club.

I usually take a girl to a specific point of interest, talk about the history of the places which involve love/scandal. Chicks love the drama element. If we go shopping then we're gonna talk about superficial things like fashion and so on.
